DSo after playing beta for a while, meticulously going through the Dracthyr starter zone and quests leading into Dragon Isles, I’ve observed the following:
My character flies to different points in the starter zone
The Dracthyr NPCs fly to different points in the starter zone.
I normally watched the Dracthyr NPC fly from the Stormwind docks up to the rest of the NPCs.
None of this was using any sort of Soar mechanic. It was just flying.
So here is my offered solution: buttons like Worgen Running Wild.
Dragon Wild: a button for dragon flying with a cast time that mimics dragon riding and needs to be upgraded like all other dragon ridings (Dracthyr forgot most of who they are, they learned how to use Soar in the starter zone, so this can be translated over easily)
Take to the Skies: a button for normal flying that is greyed out on Dragon Isles until unlocked and available everywhere else flying is unlocked, with a cast time like Worgen or no cast time like Druids. Either or.
Dracthyr has huge wings. I watch all of the NPC Dracthyr flyings. This just seems logical.
and it’s not just about wings because monks can fly without wings, it’s about the fantasy of trying to be a dragon when you imagine a dragon don’t you imagine them in the sky too?
If that isn’t a possible solution, then I’d like to suggest another one:
option for no wings or smaller wings in the barbershop
option for shorter form in the barbershop
We see taller and shorter NPC Dracthyr already. And this would open up the option for some to feel more like a Maloriak experiment that doesn’t fly.
