Heya folks,
I’ve been checking out the Dractyr and while i’ve seen plenty of posts asking why they can’t fly like we do on our regular mounts. I haven’t seen a post about their position within the Horde and Alliance.
I would like to have seen them as the race that can move between factions instead of just being stuck to one or the other. My reasoning is because Blizzard has been moving to a more neutral stance between factions with the group finder being open to both sides and becasue lore wise they have no connection, nor actual reason to be part of either side. They were never involved in the wars. They have no lore reason to not be able to walk around in either factions cities. In lore the experience with dragons is both good and bad.
Now of course, i could see that there might be a few things needed before it is possible. Maybe the requirement is exalted on your account with the cities. Orgrimmar and Stormwind exalted allows your Dractyr to enter those cities. Maybe Zandalar exalted allows you to enter that city and so on.
I don’t think Blizzard would make them neutral like that, the faction war may be over but I’m willing to bet that they want some unique questlines for each faction and allowing one race to freely switch sides would break the immersion of it.
I would say that any division as far as the adventurers are concerned is more immersion breaking.
We are sellswords, really powerful sellswords. Not officials/soldiers of the nations.
If anything, the more we grow in power, the more we should be distancing ourselves from faction affiliation.
Since Legion or even before, the players are like comic book superheroes.
I was hoping the Dracthyr would be neutral and I would somehow escape the starting zone before picking a faction and then my Dracthyr would kill everyone.
Itd be a weird move to allow dracthyrs to join horde / alliance guilds as they please aswell sit in any capital and trade with everyobe they like before any other race in the game.
Might be considered a unfair advantage. And would be abused by boosters
I woulda liked a more core story point to how we join our factions though, feel like we just kinda walked in and everyone was like “oki” but that seems to been the case with all new classes and races.
Depends on how you look at it I suppose but if it ever does become truly neutral I doubt it will happen for at least a few years so that the story can be written to reflect that.
I have to admit, I was quite surprised as well when I was choosing horde or alliance.
Although, at heart I’m a purest. I respect the faction merge is coming. So why not start it with this race. They seem to be pushing the “we’re all friends” narrative at the moment anyway.
Well for me the player had already become a neutral party since Vanilla Nax where they start to server a greater purpose.
This is why I definitely prefer the way the way games like FF14 handle the playable races where they do not compromise the storytelling by permanently putting the players in separate factions. The player is the ever more powerful hero of the planet.
In WoW storytelling it seems that while the players are supposed to be special, the important NPCs (I mean like Thrall, Jaina, etc ) seem to always be more powerful than the players but just spend most of their time lollygagging while we do all the work
The way that their intro quests went, I seemed like the one half went as an envoy to the alliance with Wrathion and one half with the other dragon dude. It’s enough for me.
