So I’m new to WoW and I’m trying to work on a backstory for my Draenei Hunter. My question is, would the draenei have rangers who assessed the planets they landed on and hunted for food, or did all the draenei stay onboard the Genedar permanently until they settled on Draenor? If that’s the case, what did they eat? And were the draenei actively looking for a new home, or just endlessly teleporting from planet to planet?
Basically, I have it written out that my character worked as a scout and hunter and was already experienced with nature, archery, animals etc. by the time she settled on Draenor - would that be impossible?

No it’s heavily implied (if not outright said) the draenei settled multiple worlds during their exile, but everytime they where found and driven to flee by the Burning Legion and their agents.
Whatever they could cultivate or acquire on the world they settled or visited.
No, they where just looking for a home. Wether they’d ended up on Azeroth, Draenor or any other world would be pure happenstance and they would’ve tried and make a life for themselves on that world.
Beast handling must have been a relevant skill through the ages as the draenei evaded “countless threats” by Velen’s forsight, moving on before the Legion could get to them but for the notable case of the battle where they lost Tuure to the legion. Handling the talbuks they introduced to Draenor means they had husbandry skills.
Ranged combat and other such skills existed prior to the arrival on Draenor but Velen personally formed the formal Rangari force with Naielle at the head to act as forward scouts of the draenei as they settled the new world. They’re described as survivalists and that is an acquired skillset demanding prior knowledge.
