Well there actually kinda is. Not a big one but there is a discord.
Yes, and plenty of cultures within the game take inspiration from much older civilisations, aboriginal tribes and barbarian tribes of ancient times. In many cases most of which are more than comfortable with nudity / light clothing. The modern views on it, as Loras above said, are also vastly different than western culture largely influenced by christianity and islam in the past.
Itâs very easy to spot when a transmog is ERP bait or when it is simply a mog in line with the raceâs culture in the WoW setting. Maybe you should swap games and find something that fits your liking more.
I agree with you as far as that Blizzard very obviously sexualises certain female characters and fetishizes certain couple constellations and its something that really needs to go. The majority of more revealing outfits on NPCs however is perfectly fine and in line with most racesâ history, location and background, though.
The fact that Iâve been DMing since forever has allowed me to play/create all sorts of NPCsâin this context, dragons. Thatâs becauseâ
âdragons are the most noteworthy fantasy element second only to magic (or rather, the two often go hand in hand). To consider dragons immersion-breaking is ludicrous. Even GoTâs focus fell on dragons, and GoT is on the lowest scale of fantasy you can achieve while still being part of the genre.
On top of that, dragons in WoW arenât (to bring the most recent example most people will be currently familiar with) as rare as in Witcher. You donât go saying âah jes the mythical bronze dragonflight of which even the most renowned monster hunters have never seenâ.
Chief, the dragon expansion was only a few years ago. We had dragons in capital cities. Night elves have been in league with dragons since the Shattering. I could spam examples, but most people that read the forums are probably aware. Dragons are fine.
Every type of roleplay attracts people who want to be OP, powerful and powergame. It´s nothing new and these people should be just ignored. DK barging into middle of Stormwind and RPing going on a killing spree would not be seen as typical DK roleplayer and no sane person would use him as an argument against roleplaying a DK. So why should dragons be different?
(Same goes for purely ERP characters)
On the other hand, actual problem with dragon roleplay, snowflakism, doesn´t get brought up enough. Dragons, despite being part of the lore for almost two decades now (and having major role in quite a few WoW expansions), are for some reason automatically seen as lorebending or immersion breaking by people and those who RP them are seen as idiots. This becomes sort of self-fulfilling prophecy, because your average roleplayer ends up avoiding this concept even if they might enjoy it and be quite awesome at it.
As a result, usually only two groups of people end up going for dragon RP:
- People who love the lore and concept so much they decide to go against the flow and pull it off (a.k.a., all those examples of dragon RP done well we see on the forums in threads as this).
- People who just don´t care and they want to be big special dragon.
And since the second group doesn´t care about whether the character they decide to go for won´t be a big snowflake, they often add more and more snowflakey things to that concept. Half-dragon, Lightforged black dragon, uncorrupted black dragon, IC wielder of Dragonwrath, twilight dragon who is actually night elf corrupted by Void magic and so on. All those barriers in our minds that prevent us from creating absurd snowflakey characters? They don´t have thoseâŚand that´s how you get all the examples of bad dragon roleplay we´ve seen throughoug the years of RPing.
IMO, the only way to do dragon RP properly on large scale (in terms of community/guild rather than characters) is to be strict about sticking to the lore and preventing any of snowflakey elements from being allowed. Otherwise you will just end up with group of lorebreaking characters and mentality of âit´s your sub, do whatever you wantâ.
According to all known laws of aviation thereâs no way a dragon should be able to fly. Its wings are too small to get its big fat body off the ground.

That´s dragon from Shrek.
Although I have no doubt there is red dragon in Goldshire who is as fat as dragon in Shrek and has similar taste in men.
The dragon of course flies anyway because dragons donât care about whatâs possible.
Just like every single concept, even plain olâ humans, I judge on what the person does (but idc really as long as weâre all having fun so meh). Dragon? Sure, go for it. Human paladin? Go nuts.
I donât get the off the bat hate.
Having fun that isnât at the expense of anyone else, the most truly based and powerful approach to roleplay.
Very Bumble Bee of them
If I see a blue dragon my night elf will shank them, simple as.
Justice for Shandaral
Why would you defend filthy Highborne?
Probably is one. Dirty, dirty people.
Is their immersion to their roleplay that they are generating. The roleplay on this server does not open itself to catering dragon roleplayers whether you like it or not. Realistically if there was a war council going on, and a Dragon RPer turned up, itâd not be the lore determining the players reaction itâs the players determining that - which in affect goes to be generally overly evasive and snarkiness ooc - be that /G âLol look at this guy roleplaying a dragon.â But yeah Iâm pretty much just handing out facts here, whether lore likes it or not, it doesnât matter.
Depends on the context and event.
Some people do cater for them, others donât.
Iâve been to events/campaigns as a dragon and have had a great time, it all depends on story and so on.
you talk like you know everything that goes on in our server. Itâs not fact itâs your perception of how things are and mine is different. Iâve encountered and had lovely roleplay with dragon rpiers and it hasnât in any way âbroken immersionâ itâs actually improved it.
peers
oh looks like itâs time for the monthly dragon RP thread
Canât say Iâve really seen or interacted with any dragon RPers (perhaps for the best). But then again I assume theyâd just be hanging around in Uldum with the âUldum humansâ and âsheikhsâ.
Sure, anything can be RPd well, but if most of it is RPd badly then of course itâs going to backfire.
Anyone who interacts with those people, regardless of concept, should be incinerated.
I disagree, Iâm of the mindset that they are not catered for because most other forum posts in regards to Dragons RPing consist of players berating them. Alongside that thereâs a ton of memes passing through discord also against Dragon RPers.
I talk about things I generally have knowledge about, put that in hand with common sense and youâve space to debate. My perception of things are built up from experience and research. And Iâll add onto this part about the mindset many of this server take and why ostracism for these sorts of things is so prominent, because players love something to cast down beneath them if they feel they have the power to do so, itâs simply human nature and AD is the perfect representation of that. Be that Dragon RP or a whole hanful of other things.
