Dragonflight is best expansion in years yet sales floped because of launch cinematic and boring looking lore

When shadowlands was up all I heard about dragonflight expansion is that people very really unhyped by new expansion tease. Not only cinematic looked like nothing will happen for whole expansion ( very bad move after bfa and sl - where content was being released so damn slow that it felt like there is nothing to do in expansion ) also you decided to put the most cut feature update presentation in history, whole Launch Gameplay Trailer was like 20% of what was being released.

BFA got huge hype because of cool starting cinematic,
Dragonflight starting cinematic hyped literally no one and it surely affected views
usually Launch Gameplay Trailer used to be hyping, new features and all that,
dragonflight Launch Gameplay Trailer was so cut that barely anyone acknowledged that it’s new expansion.

Lore is what lures VERY HUGE, amount of playerbase, gameplay is what makes them stay for longer. Idk if someone tried to sabotage dragonflight with that Launch Trailer videos or AB just wanted to experience with it, but it wasn’t very good move

What lore? DF quite literally has no lore that’s new. The entire dracthyr race is completely devoid of lore.

The post is rather about the way they introduced the expansion through Launch trailer videos/ gameplay update through it
but yeah in DF the way the history is told, it’s done so boring

It’s not DF fault, a lot of people lost hope in the game because of WoD, Legion, BfA and Shadowlands, that’s why the sales are so low. DF is fine, but even if it was a masterpiece (it’s not, but it’s way better than a lot of other expansions) its sales would still be low due to the previous expansions being bad/meh.

that’s true but the fact launch cinematic caused literally 0 HYPE only made it WAY stronger

how is not overhyping a cinematic a bad thing. Do you want people to be like in bfa and wod and be super hyped up and only to be dissappointed? thats why blizz lost alot of trust. The cinematic is fine. Especially compared the stupid one we had in shadowlands.

And well the lore did feel like a introduction to the isles so far. but hopefully they will fix that in the bigger patches. theres atleast a decent looking road map for the upcoming patches so there shouldnt be content droughts like in wod or shadowlands. Now lets just hope they dont cut content either like they did in wod and sl

Yeah, DF launch cinematic was very tame in comparison to other launch cinematics which generated a lot of hype like Legion, WoD, BfA or Shadowlands. For instance, MoP had a meh launch cinematic too and it sold worse than Cataclysm even when MoP ended up being better.

well listen, overyhyping a cinematic is never bad thing for sales, people are aware that cinematic is not exactly game itself so lol,
When bfa came out I could hype my friends through bfa cinematic, it had some cool action and motivated people to play, when I want to get my friends to dragonflight, I showed the video only once to my friend ( and his reaction was expected, meh) because its literally so unmotivating to start the game, it feels like there is NOTHING to do 0 action in it, definitely wouldn’t get anyone to check on the game,

other games release cinematic that GIVE YOU SHIVERS and its what gets people to really want to check on game…

EXACTLY, that’s my whole point in this post thank you

and history should be showed/ told better and lore itself should be done more interesting as in old days

Thats how you get good numbers at the start of an expansion and then people will hate blizzard and the expansion for being terrible. Wich is what happened in shadowlands is wich why alot of people werent willing to try dragonflight

no, believe me, people hated bfa and shadowlands only because releasing content lasted so damn long and people were stuck in the same raid/ zone for almost year everytime, in bfa it was also too slow, thats what caused people to not play, in the beggining everyone loved expansion but got sick of it really fast cuz no one wants to do the same chores for eternity.

People only hated shadowlands because of the slow content ?Thats not what the complaints on the forums said. People hated the terrible story, people hated the zones like the maw, korthia and others as well, people hated its content like thorgghast.

Its not only the slow pace of content it also was due the terrible quality of content

They gave what wow community wanted, no complex lore, no borrow power. The bad cinematic came because of SL early cancellation and rushed new expansion that would appeal the community. DF is essentially wow community that spoke with their money.

No. There were a plethora of reasons that didnt stick well with the community ever since alpha and beta. Conduits, Renown, Covenants, conduit energy, Korthia rep, shards of domination, tuning of Sepulcher (or rather the design), torghast, timegating to the max, the story, especially the story. And probably many reasons more that im subconsciously suppressing.

wod was bad yes but the other three were pretty good if not two of the best expacs

why didnt it just cos it aint a dark story yawn bored heard it before

Dude Legion was undoubtedly one of the best WoW xpacts, it had a lot of good and (especially) periodical content which a large part of people appreciated about it (even with that “controversial grind” of artifact weapons)

Agree

Legion managed to grow WoWs population during an expansion. No expansion since WTLK ever managed this.

It´s fine to have personal preference, but when it comes to the general playerbase, Legion was obviously in the top 3 of expansions.

Can anyone tell me how i can “feel” the nice created cinematics in game? It is 2 completely different teams that dont talk together… i see 1 cinematic and the devs makes crap game… what a combination.

Tbh I think sales were down because many people who left during Shadowlands have no intention of coming back. They didn’t just go away and sit idly for a year; they found other things to do, and they like doing those more than they remember liking WoW. If they went to another MMO, they’ve got new social connections now, and the ones they had here are only memories. Why would they leave something they’re enjoying to come back to a game that has had such horrible seasons as WoW has delivered recently?

And also WoW does not do a good job of luring new players. It’s just a bad experience all round, incoherent storylines, weird things like learning flying at 30 but you can’t fly because you’re locked to BfA content, inability to afford literally anything on the AH and starter accounts that don’t go high enough. You can’t see the endgame without buying DF and committing to a subscription of at least 1 month.
