Dragonflight mw monk talents

Hello, I don’t have a US account so I will stick to posting here.
My annual forum post to provide some feedback. I didn’t format too much i’m sorry if it doesn’t read smoothly.

Unfortunately I don’t have Beta access so I can’t test anything this year around.

Initial talent feedback.

I’m deeply dissapointed with the lack of new abilities.
I’m also incredibly appalled to see nightfae stomp be reworked to proc ancient teachings making it a useful spell AFTER shadowlands.
That hasn’t been used at all and suddenly is taken into a core build mechanic (ancient teaching melee)
To me this comes an expansion too late and is as far as I’m aware the only covenant ability reworked…

Clearly there is a push for mistweaver to have two playstyles, caster or melee dps.

while I agree that fistweaving can be very fun, it looks like this will be the only real viable healing build and that is worrisome. I do like having it as an option.

default talent tree: bulletpoints

  • In general I find it very strange that soothing mist is a default talent for monk, I can’t imagine a brewmaster or a ww even casting that ever, especially with no cast time on vivify.

  • tiger’s lust as a default talent instead of roll is also strange.

  • The tree pathing is random to me. I don’t see much logic in it.

  • The final talents in the generic tree with the statues don’t feel important, these are all very minor and largely irrelevant in most game aspects. Does not feel “monk” like to have a totem. I would prefer Yu’lon, Xuen and Ox as a pet to be there.

  • The aura buffs with 10yard range on leech, avoidance and speed are silly. this just feels like filler talents with no flavour.

  • Most talents are picking spells we already had or passives, there is almost no active choice and even dare I say too little choices overall.

  • Chi wave has been in every talent tree since MOP but outside of MOP has never been numerically viable, please buff that spell so its worthwhile casting. I had my friend test this on beta and it doesnt even heal or deal dmg.

  • Baseline having the choice to pick the escape from reality just doesn’t seem like a good thing. I’m against that and would rather have something like your portal slows enemies near it or you can port enemies to you.

Suggestions:
something to empower your mystic touch temporarilty on use of crackling jade lightning. This would amplify the caster build and it would make the ability a little cooler. Make it so the effect is bigger for 5seconds or the debuff makes players who hit into it leech back

a short cd on crackle jade lightning to shoot a full channel in one shot.

vivify used without cast time should have a short cooldown

on to mistweaver tree in no particular order :

the talents for the melee nightfae stomp build look appropriate, I like this.

I also like the cocoon talents making it more useful!

what I don’t like is the caster build:

  • just like in the normal monk tree the final talents seem “weak”

  • resplendent mist being on the tree to buff mastery value is something I dislike, it will heavily affect itemization and just shouldn’t be there (suggestion: you should be able to pick which stat gets buffed by 30%)

  • chi pulse is a cool ability, but It should replace expel harm as it fits the same purpose.

  • bonedust brew is not a fun ability but a lottery rng i’d rather not keep this.

  • Unison is far too weak (potential suggestions, when finishing full channel do a big heal, mana cost reduced, channel speed increasing as you channel more…)

  • Overflowing mist has an unspecificied internal cooldown??

  • the middle pathing where you have 3 celestial picks into infusion into invoker’s delight is very wrong

general complaint:

Enveloping mist feels like a amplifier to your healing rather than a major single target heal. This spell is the core mistweaver spell and we are the only healer with a large single target HOT. This is what makes us unique and should be focused on more. The hot itself needs to be stronger and more impactful.

I would also really like to get effuse back and or sheilun’s gift.

No. What made us unique was the fact that we were the only healer with stances and a combo point system, but they took that away from us in Legion.
Oldschool Mana Tea was pretty unique too.

Uniqueness in Mistweaver won’t be destroyed in Dragonflight, it was destroyed in Legion.

the stance system was fun when it launched in MOP but I can see why they moved past that.
I don’t mind having a combo point system but ever since they created essence font and vivify that doesn’t work. We just don’t have interesting generators or spenders so in the current form it won’t come back.

legion rework wasnt the best but i’ve moved on and my feedback is only towards improving the future

Just keep going a little bit further and you’ll figure out that the best way to improve MW design is to roll it back to its WoD iteration and delete essence font in the process.

Do you guys think mw will be in a good spot in DF?

Im kinda sick of putting 2times the effort as a disc when a shaman for example can relaxly heal with 2 buttons

Monk seems unique and fun

I really like the talents maybe cuz is shadowlands version was so bad i cant not like these. I usually play Arena and M+. For these two purposes the talents look infinitely better than the SL version imo.
We finally get a lot of tools and options.
