Dragonflight review: The good, the bad, and the same as before

  • Dragonflying

It’s engaging, fun, and easily one of the best additions to the game, but needs a bit more polish. If it doesn’t become a global alternative for flying, it will be one of the worst dev decision this company will make.

  • Skill Trees

Overall, a positive change which allows for some level of customization depending on the play style. It does make the game feel like it is an RPG compared to previous system.

  • Crafting

Decent improvement with actually gave me good level of fun, but eventually experience was screwed up by multiple points of gating, boring, and annoying reagent acquisition, and lack of proper explanation to what stats do, or what given tree in given profession does.
Clearly, you still don’t understand why crafting is important, and what potential it has.

PS. Seriously, the most important mats are a random low % drops which give people burnout due to amount of grind ppl do to get those mats? You clearly haven’t learned anything from your past mistakes.

  • Mount customization

Decent amount of customization, but only one actual Dragon.
The wyvern and two things hijacked from Spore doesn’t count as dragons.
So basically, a half-baked job.

  • Raid

It’s ok, but nothing special.

  • Dungeons (Mythic +)

You don’t have any.
All you have are boring, burnout inducing speed run instanced designed to facilitate irrelevant esport. Single-handedly the worst part of WoW.

  • Key issues
  1. Absurd focus on boring collectibles, which due to numbers are as valuable as dirt on the side of the road.
  2. Waste of time and resources to develop systems like Mythic + when its place can be taken by much better RPG systems like proper RPG dungeon crawler.
  3. Lead designers which don’t understand RPG genre, and they got into their position via seniority, and not because they are good RPG designers.

All in all, DF has 2-3 promising changes, and everything else is more or less the same level of boring grind, and haphazardly implemented ideas from community to desperately grab people attention. Considering that nothing will change in regard to people who lead the design, I don’t see how this game will ever be a good RPG.

Unsub.

I agree with you. Is better then other expansions but let’s be honest the last 2 expansion where so bad that was super easy for this one to be better.

with catch up. If you weren’t there are week 1, there’s no way you’ll be able to make money with crafting at this point.

Keys are my fav content to do, but M+ is currently not in a good spot.

Can I have your gold?

It does feel like they just added a lot of extra grind and cost to Professions.

At the end of the day, then Jewelcrafters still just make gems, and Enchanters still just make enchants.

The only difference is that now you need to go through a longer leveling process in order to make those same kind of things you’ve made in every previous expansion.

And if you don’t go through that leveling process and spend the gold it takes, then you just get to make those gems and enchants of a lower quality.

There’s nothing new or rewarding to the updated Professions.

There’s just a long and expensive grind, and if you don’t go through it, then you get punished in the form of only being able to make low quality crafts.

Ridiculous.

Feels like you’re just burned out and don’t enjoy the game anymore, nothing else. Do other things in life or play other games meanwhile. Doesn’t hurt to take a break every once and then.

For me, this is a big problem.

The way Mount Cosmetics work has completely killed Mount collecting for me.

I’m not bothered about my dragon having Blonde Hair or Spikes. It’s really not enough to make a difference to me.

I would rather them just have more Mounts to collect.

But since we rare ride mounts anyway, there’s no reason to be showing them off anymore.

Yes, this!

M+ is an extremely popular game mode, and tbh, is probably what is carrying the game a whole at the moment.

So resources put into this game mode certainly aren’t wasted.

Whilst I agree there could be some more indepth world content put into the game, it shouldn’t be at the cost of M+.

The real question is what are they supposed to do to make m+ better? It’s one of the biggest retail features and idk I have mixed feelings about it. I resubbed about a month ago, pushed my rio to 2780 and it was fun at first. Pushing 20s, obtaining portals and that’s where fun ended, lol. You have to be a real degenerate to spend X hours a day looking at LFG tab to improve your score by 7 points. Yeah “M+ was not designed for pugging. just find friends 4head”. Obviously m+ in a premade is easier and more fun but it doesn’t change the fact that most people pug and pugging experience is awful. Dead weeks cos terrible affixes combo, dead week cos it’s raging and your spec doesn’t bring anything to the table, dead season cos spec you like to play is deemed off meta therefore you are not allowed to play it.

I agree with you.
What would make professions more interesting is making more interesting things.
Not sure what but it could be cosmetics (which most gear ends up being at some stage) or they could add more items like Mount equipment that have cool or useful (non combat) effects.

I liked the Profession questlines in Legion (apart from being forced into dungeons, which I mostly kept until I could solo). That also gave professions some flavour.
