afrosalami was blamed for bfa and shadowlands. who are we going to blame this time?
is crap
afrosalami was blamed for bfa and shadowlands. who are we going to blame this time?
i always say the same thing. bfa is good and shadowlands at least got people mad , this one is just dull which is worse
Lol, lmao.
it is
it was not. but compared to shadowlands and df bfa’s story was a masterpiece
I liked a lot of it. Especially the stuff with the Tuskarr
and shadowlands is a masterpiece compared to df
Reoccupy Oribos! Shadowlands was the daddy.
I guess, at this point we can safely assume, that WoW story is written by ChatGPT
nah it could have been good but it had too many big issues. the azerite grind was too big, wargrounds or however that senario was called could have been much more like a pvp mode. islands expeditions were okay if you were supposed to grind them so much for azerite. And the whole warplot got replaced with a big void baddy very quickly. For something named bfa it easily got outdone by mop with the faction war theme
I think there is a decent enough story in there somewhere but it’s been told very poorly. It’s been split into different Campaigns (some of which had renown or other gates). Large chunks of the narrative are in the recently released (well after the expansion itself) book which had facts such as Alexstraza and Fyrak are cousins?!?
Also the absense of some very key characers is striking. Thrall was the World Shaman back in Cata, with the Elements a key player here so should he (and the Earthen Ring). Brann should be all over Tyrhold and the other Titan facilities.
I hope that Chris Metzen being brought on as Narrative Director that the narrative of the game might get some direction.
This probably will happen in the prepatch, so we get to learn about the heart of azeroth and how to get there. After all they seem like they are going to be involved the next expansion. Brann with the delves and well the earthen ring because we are going underground.
Or they will do it in a book or a twitter posts lol. Wouldnt be the first time
SL Not so much, but I miss Daddy Denathrius. There is no daddy anymore though.Wrathion is tame,Sebellian we lost him somewhere…and the new black aspect…I don’t care about him(He gives no emotions or interest…for me anyway).
lol but true wow story should have ended with legion. chapter wc3 closed.
That killed me XD
Cant stand the pair of them. They are both clumsy drips.
The only character I really hate from SL is Pelagos. Straight as he opened his mouth I wanted his head to be smashed in.
Just realised you are on Bronze dragonflight. That was the server I started playing wow on back in TBC
Dragonflight is definitely the worst expansion story, so far.
My thinking goes a bit like this:
Vanilla was a major step down from Warcraft III in terms of story. But because WoW was an MMORPG and story was typically sparse in MMORPGs, then Blizzard got a lot of praise, because WoW at least had way better story than the other MMORPGs on the market at the time.
TBC was solid. It had a red thread through its story from start to finish with Illidan and Kael’thas and Kil’jaeden. Nothing felt missing and expectations had been lowered from the Warcraft III era to the Vanilla WoW era. And this met those expectations.
WotLK was solid. Blizzard had to do the Arthas story, and they did. And then they did a bunch of extra story stuff which was also pretty good, so all-around solid.
Cata was okay-ish. The story was a bit all over the place, as was the expansion itself, and the ending came a bit short of expectations, but there were still some strong story beats throughout the expansion as a whole, and the story made sense as a whole.
MoP was solid. Strong theme, solid narrative, and interesting stories being told from start to finish. Nothing left out or cut short, just a well-executed story.
WoD was a mess. The ending was a mess and the general flow of the story was a mess, and it all reflected an expansion production that had gone haywire. The redeeming factor for WoD was that the story theme and vibe was solid, even if the execution of the storytelling wasn’t. Plus there was an initial story that could be glimpsed before Blizzard had to re-write the story and retrofit it into the expansion that actually seemed solid.
So good initial idea, but terrible final execution.
Legion was solid. Strong theme, solid narrative, and a storyline that played on all the strengths of Warcraft lore. Well-executed from start to finish, nothing appeared cut or rushed or otherwise.
BfA was okay-ish. Like WoD it reflects an initial idea that seemed great, but where the execution was lacking. Too many storyline at once, too many themes, too many characters, and too little time and content to wrap it all up in a satisfying manner. That which was there was excellent, but there needed to be a lot more to make it feel completed. Too big a story for a WoW expansion to handle. As a consequence the ending was lackluster.
Shadowlands was a mess. WoD all over again. A production gone haywire and a story team needing to re-write and retrofit a new story into the remade expansion, with a result that was messy to say the least.
Again the final result leaves glimpses of what was initially meant to be. An evil Primus, a friendly Jailer, and a conspiracy about fate.
So there are some redeeming qualities, because at least Blizzard had an initial idea that seemed cool, even if their execution was terrible and the final story was a mess.
Dragonflight is the worst. It’s the worst because unlike WoD and Shadowlands, then it’s not a mess. WoD and Shadowlands are the result of Blizzard having a messy production and the expansion development not turning out as it should, so the story has to be shoehorned in, and the result of course ends up being a mess.
But Dragonflight is from start to finish what Blizzard planned for it to be. They’ve cut one thing only, which is some content dealing with the fallout between Vyranoth and Fyrakk (likely in eastern Azure Spans), but other than that this is a well-executed expansion with a story that is made to fit. So there are no excuses to be given for why the storytelling would fall short.
But it still does fall short. It is terrible. And it is frightening to think that this is the exact story that Blizzard wanted to tell with Dragonflight. This is their best. At least with WoD and Shadowlands you know that Blizzard aimed for something else, but then they messed up and we got some crap stories. Fair enough, mistakes happen. But Dragonflight isn’t a mistake. This is the story Blizzard wanted to tell. And it’s god-awful. It’s the worst. All the story beats are awful. The ending comes short of any expectations anyone could ever have for a WoW expansion.
It’s just bad. And there are no excuses this time why it should be bad. So it falls squarely on Blizzard’s inability to write a good story for Warcraft in Dragonflight.
I think that’s also the vibe I’m getting from the community at large. You can argue the other expansions. Was BfA good or bad? Was Shadowlands really as bad as people say? Was WotLK just nostalgia or not? There’s a lot to debate there.
But Dragonflight? There’s no debate here. It’s just crap. No one seems to be getting up on a soapbox and trying to argue otherwise this time. And that’s a first.
At least they are hot and edgy compared to…I don’t even know his name…Ebyssian or smth…
Omg yesss I hated Pelagos with such a passion.I would ve rather had anyone else as arbitter than him.
How is this guy not hot and edgy
In all seriousness, though, I can’t wait until DF is over. Not really a fan of dragons.
Hahaha I almost spilled my coffee.
To be honest even Saurfang was hotter and edgier than him…and he was like a hundred.
Me too…me too.
I don’t dislike dragons though…I just wish the story wasn’t so much about teaching people how to be good human beings.
The thing is wow community doesn’t need good story and consistency, they need hype, signposting and nostalgia injections.
Atleast forum and reddit community. If this friendship thing was with little more edgier direction and in pre rendered cinematic average wowbrain would scream HYPE TRUE METZEN IS BACK at the top of his lungs
