Dragonflying is better than regular flying, but -

80 levels I still only have a ground one which moves like it is drunk. The jump is fine though.

I hated dragonriding at first, but after a lot time on it, it feels pretty good for distances. Only thing which might be better is able to put it on auto pilot circle while checking a map or quest location.

It feels bad to lose speed before reaching the destination. I haven’t tried hover or back stuff.

Old world flying or flight masters feel really slow now. Flight master taxis = coffee time, or need to speed up a bit.

All the mounts are unlocked by playing the Path of Fire campaign, it’s pretty quick.

The fun from GW2 mounts really starts when you have both the Raptor (to move horizontally) and the Springer (to move vertically).

Much later, you can get the Griffon which works a bit like Dragonflying in WoW, except it can’t ascend into the air: you must jump from a high point to glide at high speeds to your destination - which means you interact with the map and your other mounts to get there.

no its not! dragonflying is garbage if you wanna fly upstairs all the time or be afk while in the air or if you gather stuff!!
and i dont need this crap because there is taxi everywhere!

It’s a game with magical creatures and dragons that invade from a different timeline, and you call this game unrealistic…

Imagine having to slow down and land very carefully to avoid damage.
You have fall damage when on foot. You must be trolling.

So you get a winged magical creature, but it can’t fly… only glide. All because they want you to “interact with the map” while going from point a to point b. Sounds extremely tedious to me.

Agree!

Also how are you supposed to enjoy the view while zooming at 850% speed?!

Not as much as you think.

It has 2 restrictions:

  • It can’t ascend, so it needs to jump from a high point
  • It can’t fly higher than the height it has jumped from

But if you take a quick look, it’s still very much able to fly and manoeuvre around the map quite freely.

Dragonflying is one of the worst things to ever make it into wow.

I miss just activating auto-walk and just check in 5 minutes later when i crossed the map.

It is tedious, excessively so…
and not to mention the huge cash grab aspect of the whole game, I wanted to continue to like it, as it’s where my Mum used to play before she passed. But the oh they are mounts, but not really!!!

The huge amount of cash shop additions…
I uninstalled it and it won’t go back on again.

Think dragonriding is one of the best introductions in recent times, its fast, fun and a lot more engaging than just auto flying from A to B.

Theyre good in gw2. I dont think however theyd be great in WoW.

Gw2 was really built around mounts.

U jave mounts specialise in different things.

  • the raptor lept long distance to cross gaps in the map.

  • the rabbit jump super high to climb over things or to jump over obstacles for exploration points.

  • dunebeetle moved on ground super fast with huge drifts to get around bump or flat surfaces.

  • the jackel teleported allowing you to move quickly through walls.

  • gryphon allowed downwards flight and gliding.

I think the dragon kinda messed things up for it thoubu as this was pretty much the cheat code which nullified alot of purpose.

But you had.

Dunebug racing,

Portals which allowed the jackal to move long distances instantly.

Jimping puzzles.

And more which all fed into the mounts designs.

WoW lacks this. So yes if u look at it blank and think of it in WoW settings theyd be terrible. So i dont think ur entirely incorrect in terms of ur views here

I disagree.

Dragonflight was one of the best things to come to flying.

Making it the only version of flying in dragonflight however was the worst decision. Both should have existed side by side.

They both have perks, tbey both have niches. But exclusively is just removing options to the playerbase.

Not really.
Path of Fire maps, and all maps onward, were built with mounts in mind.
But GW2 didn’t release with mounts.

I ment gw2 maps offer verticle challange. Maybe not core game. But they allow for the niches brought by mounts to really excel.

look at HoT maps their deep and huge in design. U can see where mount niches would hold up well in those maps.

Gw2 open world design, is so well crafted. It makes these systems like their mounts exceptional

WoW just doesnt achieve open world to that scale, which means their niches in WoW would be wasted and you eouldnt find the fun in them.

I remember my first time in HoT going into tenebrous, and my god i got sooooo lost in all the layers trying to figure out how to get to hero points and how to open up all the locations.

It was amazing. I wish WoW had that sorta deep design but sadly it doesbt :frowning:

I find GW2 mounts hugely inferior when it comes to flying…
at least dragon riding mounts are in the game.
GW2 mounts arent actually in WoW so how can they be better!!?

I haven’t felt encouraged to even start the PoF, HoT or the Dragon bit, even though I purchased all of them.

At 80 areas are getting too difficult, with fast respawning mob dense areas that are vile to be stuck in on your own.

Hero points are needed to learn talents, but are now mostly in the :poop: areas, so I got stuck and left the game.

As a newish player, I have ONE ‘drunken’ GW2 ground mount which slips and sways like I cannot ride it properly, and rubbish transmog options if you want to do anything but recolour mismatched gear you are given :slightly_frowning_face:

Gathering cooking materials and finding new recipes was the last fun thing I did in there.

Ah that’s too bad.
You say you haven’t felt encouraged to start PoF, but it’s a very new player friendly expansion.

Mob density is low, and you can skip a lot of stuff with the mounts they give you.
Plenty of hero points are also just exploration related, to encourage you to play with the new mounts, too.

Also, in expansion zones, Hero challenges grant you 10 hero points - not just a single one.
I think you’d have enjoyed the game more had you started with PoF.

I had read the opposite which also put me off.

Not sure what you get tbh. One mount per expansion ?

I understood the Siege turtle is a hard raid reward. Not sure about the others.

Thanks, I didn’t know that. I saw ppl in chat saying the game gave you more points than you could ever use.

Then saw I didn’t have any left to even start to unlock Soul Beast and assumed I had spent them in the wrong places.

IF you enjoy such type of gameplay.

Which I do not. So no; I wouldn’t want any of that stuff.
I’m playing an MMORPG to play MY character. Not to play a racing game or a platformer or whatever else.

They should stay far, far away from GW2 mechanics from now on imo.

Im pretty sure theres a second way to obtain hero points through a currency, that allows u to get all the ones u csn get and unlock the ones u dont wanna bother with via that.

Also im pretty sure the amount obtainable is far higher then how many you need

I’ve been working on the rep mounts in Pandaria recently as I wasn’t playing back then. Despite being a big fan of the dragon racing, I find I still prefer the old flying system for getting around the open world. Wish it was a bit quicker, mind.
