Dragonmaw Community - Fear the Maw :Dragon:

Yeah, you -can- get them as a battle pet, but not a Hunter Pet, not yet.

Huh, I may be misremembering then. Ah well!

Dragonmaw’s are a real brutish clan and they treat dragons and their cousins with contempt, slavery and cruelty, similar to Thunderlord’s, as you know. It’s part of their persona of seeing creatures merely as weapons, so is there really any point of claiming to be Dragonmaw (or saying it’s a requirement) if the only similarities between them and Mok’Nelghor will be they ride protodrakes?

You mention the old ways of Rylak’s and Dragonmaw using trust and respect, but I couldn’t actually find anything on this. Do you have a source?

Don’t get me wrong, it’s a nice concept. But to me it’s like roleplaying a off-shoot of Thunderlord Clan that have become Frostwolves in customs; defeating the purpose of them being Thunderlord’s. I think the malice of the Dragonmaws is quite ingrained in their culture.

Though you only accept Mag’har there are Dragonmaw’s that come in green too. The clan has quite a varied history in Outland, Thrall’s Horde and under the Dark Horde keep in mind, but I get if you just only want grey orcs.

What I understood from the conversations I’ve had with Kagryn, the original idea behind the project was influenced by information which can be found in Chronicles Volume 2 and, to an even greater extent, the short story The Strength of Steel — two sources that, either in one way or another, diverge from the otherwise stereotypical portrayal of a Dragonmaw orc.

Koak is a cool (green Dragonmaw) character. But that was on an individual basis and the story really revolves around how he’s quite different from his clan as an outsider, overcoming the misconceptions of the Dragonmaw’s brutal ways of training their beasts.

"Dragons are no mere beasts, like hogs or cattle. They are a force of nature. Powerful… Primal.

To bend them to your will is to harness the world.

To take up their reigns is to take destiny into your hands."

The only thing about Rylaks I ever found in Chronicles II they considered them loyal beasts after training them, but that is similar to how Thunderlords dominate animals into ‘loyal beasts’ too. Part of the charming thing for me about Dragonmaw’s that evaded captivity are, well, evil in their methods. Their clan leader swore vengeance against all dragons after Grim Batol after all.

It might be an interesting thing to pursue if you had Dragonmaw’s who were resistant to the brutal ways like Koak. Golluck Rockfist says they (the Horde and the Dragonmaw) have a debt owed to the red dragonflight that needs to be repaid. So maybe that is something worth exploring in the guild?

In their native Orcish, the Dragonmaw clan is known as Nelghor-shomash , or “Cry of the Beasts”, a name they earned by learning to tame the winged rylaks of Draenor. The Dragonmaw fondly referred to their mounts as nelghor , or “loyal beasts”, and would later apply the same term to the dragons of Azeroth. All orcs would eventually refer to dragons as nelghor . The name of the Dragonmaw clan never changed, but its meaning surely did.

Wowpedia sources the above text from WoW Chronicle Volume 2 pg. 42, As I lack any of the WoW Chronicle Volumes I cannot confirm. However from my interpretation of that, it seems to me that the Rylak were not tortured and dominated like the dragons of Azeroth were and that it was a much more intimate relationship.

As for why would the Dragonmaw of this day and age look to the past even if their relationship with the Rylak was so? Well that depends on the individual orc but Kagryn for one has lost a lot and partially blames the ways of the “modern” Dragonmaw. The way of domination, enslavement and torture is, at least in his mind, the source of alot of his suffering and he is attempting to learn from the past and encourage a new generation to not repeat the same mistakes his generation did (and as such not suffer the same losses). So its just the ramblings of an old Dragonmaw orc really but he has personal reasons to seek a change.

It is a valid point though, thank you for raising it

Throm-ka Warriors! After doing a bit of research we have found proof of green skinned orcs such as Koak, Zuluhed the whacked etc. As such we now accept green skinned orcs too!

You are doomed.

“Have to watch for their claws too, especially the cubs, shred your arms if you are not careful”

Kagryn brought the spring of the Highlands to his mouth, swallowing the entire contents of the glass, slamming it on the table. Much more refreshing than the swill from Durotar.

“I see…”

“They are playful when they are young, but they grow out of it soon enough.”

The wind rider bit into his leg of pork, juices erupting from the flesh and all over the corners of his mouth.

“How long before they mature? Until they are strong enough to be ridden?”

“A few months, not long. It is best to form a bond with the beast early on, Wyvern are intelligent creatures if they don’t want you on their back, you won’t be.”

Kagryn slides the glass to one side and nods over to Gravy for another.

“I have no Intentions of forcing the beast to do anything. Where do you capture them? The wild ones?”

The Wind Rider narrowed his gaze for a brief moment between mouthfuls of pork and grog before returning to his feast.

“Wyverns nest in the Thousand Needles up on the cliffs, away from any prey. But we source them from the Stonetalon Mountains.”

Kagryn nods thank fully to gravy and sips from his fresh glass, raising an eyebrow accordingly

“Stonetalon? Hmm…”

Kagryn scratched his jaw, pondering the information for a moment. The Wind Rider didn’t even notice as he continued to devour the boar, chewing and swallowing like the very creature he was feasting upon.

“These Wyverns, can they be reasoned with?”

The Wind Rider shrugged, spitting out food as he croaked

“Perhaps, they do understand Common and did serve the Horde when we originally landed to these shores but that is up to the Wyvern, lovely beasts they are, loyal.”

Throwing a bone down on the table, the wind rider shoved a finger into his mouth, covered in juice and fat.

“So, are you buying a Wyvern or not?”

Kagryn stood and slid a silver coin across the table, shaking his head and making his way towards the door

“No, I have everything that I need”

He left the gluttonous wind rider with a confused frown and left to plan an expedition, he was going to the Stonetalon Mountains…

Added an FAQ section to try and clarify a few things.

Also would like to thank Rokare’s for introducing a deadly new for foe for the Dragonmaw and all orcs, the Dragonfyre clan! I am sure last night’s event won’t be the last we see of them!

As the Mok’Nelghor rest and recover they set their eyes to Stonetalon where Wyverns await…

Last night’s event saw the Mok’Nelghor face off against the underworld network of disillusioned Dragonmaw! Both Kagryn and Katesh won last night’s rewards, perhaps those IC items will pay off in a later date?

If you’d like to get involved with the two next events that link to this storyline pop me a message or better yet, join the best (and only) Dragonmaw guild on the server by contacting Kagryn!
