Dragonracing

So last time alot of us acctually did the races to earn the transmog or get the things for our drakes but this time around, why should we bother other then getting the achievments?

In consideration of how many mounts/pets they’ve been tossing out at us lately im a wee bit surprised we barely got anything this time.

I can’t see myself doing it tbh, its not that fun for me personally

It’s not fun for me either so I don’t do them.

“Why should we bother”? - It’s for you to decide if you should. It’s really as simple as that.

It’s a main expansion feature. It’s a content that you paid 60 dollars for. Why even asking? Enjoy it or unsub (c)

I feel the same about DF professions, but I stopped complaining about those a long time ago. As PP says, if you don’t like a feature just don’t play it.

I’m not doing m+ since they’re not fun for me (why should I bother and do a stressful activity to get gear that will be obsolete in a few weeks/months?), but I will do the races even if I already have everything because they’re fun for me!

If you don’t care about clocking off the achievements then you’re safe to skip it.

There were four new manuscripts on the vendor, again if you’re not into collecting them all then there is nothing lost by skipping.

This is how it should be.

It’s good for the players to not being doing stuff they don’t enjoy.
It’s good for the game if the devs can see what players enjoy doing for fun rather than the devs saying “So many players love Torghast because they’re all doing it”, no sheet sherlock, of course they’re doing it since you forced them in there for their legendary.
The devs can try new things and if players enjoy these they’ll engage with them if they don’t enjoy it they’ll abandon it.

Of course for this to work the playerbase will need to lose the mentality that if it’s not player power (primarily gear) it’s not worth doing.

I’ve quite enjoyed those Sniffen Treasure hunts this patch. I on;y do a coupld per week but that’s enjoy. They’re simple easy-going content that I can do at my own pace.
There’s no timer, there’s no scoring system, there’s no one-shot mechanics, there don’t take very long.

I haven’t done any of the dragon races as I’m just not good enough at dragon riding to complete one but even if I could I’d probably only do them once for the achievement, it’s not my idea of fun

tinfoil hat goes on

I’ve only done a few of these races in the old world and whilst I have enjoyed the majority of my time doing these, I can’t help but think that dragon riding in the old world as it currently stands is going to be frustrating when it is implemented - I’ve lost track of the amount of times I have slammed into a tree (looking at you Elwynn forest -.-) or some random ruins because there isn’t enough open space to maneuver at speed in some areas.
This makes me think that these events are just a way of getting players to visit the old world spaces that they would never really go to because most of the current game is set away from it and newer players will be levelling in BFA and DF zones so are unlikely to want to explore zones in the old world that are not directly tied to that 1-70 pathway so the majority are likely to only have set foot outside of SW/Org a handful of times if at all.

I think it’s a combination of wanting to show how Dragon riding would be clunky in old zones currently AND showing off locations and zones before they reshape the original continents again to fit in more with their modern landscapes, both graphically and in terms of their size to accommodate Dragon riding mechanics.

Blizzard updated way the old world looks with the draw distance setting to max so it is now in line with the dragon isles from up high this year.
Mountains look more like proper ranges in the distance now and I sware the sky ceiling has been made higher than before.
Plus Blizzard has been updating assets that could be used to replace the original old world buildings ect for years now along with their landscape’s in each expansion generally looking more interesting and polished since at least WoD. We have also seen updated Ironforge guard armour and forsaken guard armours lately.

Maby its just my mind overthinking it but could we be looking at these events wrong and instead, should we be viewing them as a showcase of what Blizzard has made before they update everything? We do have a big milestone for the game coming next year, and I have everything crossed that Blizzcon sheds some light

Dragon Riding and Dragon Racing are not interchangable. Regular Dragon Riding you would not be skimming so close to trees and buildings(Unless that is how you like to fly)

I understand that we are pressed into just racing right now and that its not the same, however with a momentum based system like Dragon riding, you are inevitably going to be flying close to the ground at some point - Unlike normal flying where you can just point your toon in a direction and hold down both mouse buttons with no drop in altitude.

Either way, I found it happening more while doing the kalimdor and EK cups as the races in the Dragon Isles are in environments that where developed with Dragon Riding in mind.

Dunno about you, but when i’m dragon riding I am only close to the ground when i’m landing.

There’s a bunch of new manuscripts.

Not specifically related but worth a mention. I noticed these dragon races had started cus when in Kalimdor flying between tamers there was a strange ‘wheesh and whoosh’ in my head phones… all the time as a background noise. It replaces the sound of my feet on the ground. Worse is that when I land in front of the tamer my Dread Raven rears up on its legs, spreads its wings and then the animation freezes in space until I hop off. Started exactly the same time as the races began.

i didn’t do it last time it felt like a ‘‘chore’’ but is it good ? should i do it this time ? or just skip the whole thing ?

I don’t know, should you? Really strange comment. With that said Eastern Kingdoms was way easier than Kalimdor. I had an issue with Dun Morogh, because i couldnt see the checkpoints very well because of the snow, but everything else was a doddle.

The rewards mean nothing to me. I don’t like any of the dragons, let alone to customize them, and would much prefer to use my older mounts to dragonride with. That said I completed both Kalimdor and EK racer on gold on all 3 difficulties for the title. I also got the transmog set, but that’s not new this time around.

I found EK races much easier than some of the Kalimdor ones. Can’t wait for the Outland races!

Same here. The difficulty is definitely decreasing. In the past it felt like the races were made by two devs. One who spent 10 minutes positioning each circle so it perfectly lines up with a tree branch (while giggling to themselves I bet) and timers so tight you had to shave off milliseconds, while the other was like “as long as you hit the circles you’re gold”.
With EK there were like 2 semi-challenging ones and the rest were just point to circle and press 1.

I only did the quest to earn an easy 10 currency; just to have a bit stowed away for possible future rewards I might want. Other than that, I’m not bothering; I don’t like the activity.

If you don’t want the rewards and don’t care about the achievements then there is no reason to do it if it’s not something you find fun.
