I know it’s not everyones cup of tea but genuinely looks like fun to me.
Also what you can see from the new zones looks really nice.
I am the only person (I know) that dislikes the whole dragon riding thing.
It’s a gimmick that will seen fun and then become a chore over time.
I like getting to customise my dragon.
The dragon racing sounds like a fun minigame though.
I agree with you. It looks fun. I hope Blizzard add racing against famous charcters. I’d love to beat Norzdormu the time travaler.
Dragon racing should be awesome casual content in my opinion. From my good experience with GW2’s Beetle racing and Jumping puzzles i am quite certain the gliding races in WoW will be popular.
Tah hates it too
Meanwhile I’m gonna be all like
Only thing I need to know is how optional are these?
Will I need to win a race at a certain level in order to progress my campaign or even my dragon riding itself?
I never managed the final race for the Netherwing faction in Old Shadowmoon Valley. I was able for the previous races though.
Cloud Serpent had some races too, the intro ones were easy enough and I managed those but not sure how high I made it to.
The impression I got is that the races in Azure Span were fully optional, but there is no way for us to know if that’s true for all zones.
what i noticed while racing in Pandaria is that
-
i tend to bump into things like a fool
-
im slow as a snail.
this could be fun im sure.
That’s for sure.
I really dislike that sort of thing. I’m already not a fan of dragonriding in itself, but races and such: Hell no. Stupid, stupid, stupid. If any of that is mandatory for a story quest, I’m going to be mad as hell because THIS kind of content, that is the perfect example of stuff that should be completely optional.
Hate is too strong a word. Maybe I’ll hate it once I’ve been able to play around with it, maybe not. At the moment it’s a dislike and a worry that I won’t enjoy a second of it. I’m hoping I’m wrong.
But even if I turn out to like dragonriding, I will not like these sorts of races. The very concept of them is just not for me. Why does everything have to be turned into a competition?! Sigh. I don’t feel the need to prove anything to anyone.
Same, it looks very similar to minecrafts Elytra wings and honestly that’s an item I will never not enjoy flying with in that game, combine that with Blizzard designing areas around it with this type of glideflying in mind and there’s just so much potential man
It might be less smooth sailing then mounts that literally swim in the air but the gameplay is basically just point to where you want to go and occasionally click something to generate some momentum, plus a (very small) skill cap to maximize your glide speed. Not too complex to be a chore but complex enough to be interactive beyond; point your mount where you want to go, press autowalk, go afk for 5 minutes
If the glide speed is also a lot faster then the epic flying mount (and it seems to be according to tests from alpha) I doubt it will become a gimmick because why would you swim through the air at 300% speed while you can RP as a bullet gliding at 600%
This is exactly what I don’t like about it.
I don’t want to ‘play a game’ when I’m travelling somewhere in the air. The whole appeal of travelling through the air is: avoid content, fast travel, no hassle.
Dragonriding takes one of those things away - and if you’re not paying attention it will take those other 2 things away as well. It’s making air travel into a mini game. And that just doesn’t appeal to me.
I feel it WILL be a chore. Not at first; it’ll feel new and fun. But after that I do think it will feel like a chore and I will be wishing that I could ‘just fly’ somewhere again.
I’d rather swim through the air at 600%.
All this will do is create a desire in people to make real flying faster.
Well it’s different likes for everyone ofcourse, like I said, my main reason for being positive about it is because it looks a lot like the flight mechanic in another game and after years I havn’t grown tired of that method of flying either.
Ofcourse that’s just what I feel when I look at it, I have no alpha access so I don’t know if it’s a 1:1 (or similarly close enough to make the comparison in the first place) translation between MC elytra flight and the mechanic we are getting here.
I do hope we can do some tricks with it too though so it’s not just pan up + pan down every x amount of seconds, I reckon that if it’s really badly received they’ll just unlock regular flying in an early major content patch, if not then they’ll very likely still unlock it in a later patch
I hate it too. Beating that guy in TBC in a race at the end of the Netherwing grind, then all that rep for Cloud serpents… please don’t make this new one a rep grind
