Why can’t it be done item-specifically (Like last exp in SL in Korthia)? I would like to try more classes and the 441 gear would be a great help in the beginning, but there is no point in wasting the flightstone if you can throw the item that is not an upgrade for me…
Do they even have to include RNG in catch up?

Wasn’t the SL equivalent by the flightmaster one exactly the same? It was RNG.
There was also one in Korthia that sold several types of items.
Yes but that’s not the equivalent of the vendor in Valdrakken selling gear for flightstones.
But you got the gist of it, didn’t you? 
The present makes no sense.
Even though it can be annoying to not get the item you want, I still firmly believe the RNG aspect of these chests and other similar items should remain.
If you start to remove RNG from one system, then people will start to demand it being removed from other aspect of the game. This in returned generates more whining & complaining and just doesn’t positively impact the game as a whole.
The vast majority of players do not use the forums, so it’s clear to say that they may also have a similar outlook where it’s frustrating, but not something which ruins the game for them or when making alt characters.
I just don’t want 8 items out of 10 chests that I already have 
Especially since this is a catch up gear, you should have a chest of every item type.
You don’t have to remove the RNG from everywhere, but you can remove it from those that serve the purpose of speeding up the gear generation a little.
