Druid Rp- Where do our clothes go?

So having rp’ed for three years now and done enough rp reading to make me ill. Something has always confused me with Shaman, but mainly Druid roleplaying.

What I have never actually figured out or seen explained properly is where the clothing, bags, weapons and other affects of a druid disappear to when they change into their forms.

I’ve seen it rp’ed as pocket dimensions, magical returning clothing, clothing just being an illusion and so on. Personally I’ve just avoided the topic my clothes are on my Worgen form and they go away when I turn where they go to? Well that’s what I intend to find out.

If anyone would link something or provide some explanation I would be grateful. Thanks.

your gear becomes your skin, your weapons become your claws and teeth
Looking at typical druid clothing and gear which is already semi animal and tree-barks

I doubt blizzard have given it the same thought as say DnD have but if I were to assume I would say that is where it goes.

I give that idea a 9 out of 10 OwO’s.

Blizzard has, as far as I know, given us no explanation in that detail. That is also why so many headcanons exists.

My own personal headcanon is that your entire being shifts into the form of what you shift into, with just parts of your mind being still intact. So your clothing doesn’t exist in that moment, neither does your physical humanoid form.

I agree pretty much with Thuzar on this. The artifact weapons from Legion for example had an immediate effect on the animal forms. Also, if you watch the “Terror of Darkshore” cinematic you can see how features from Malfurion’s bear form translate to his clothing.

Perhaps someone can dig out the quote, but there is a novel vaguely mentioning that it goes to some mysterious/secret place (for druids).

It magically becomes part of your being.

But where does your fur go…

My manly chest.

So it seems that its just each to their own then. I find it quite strange, but I suppose that’s how some things are.

I do agree with all of you though, it all makes sense. If we could delve a bit deeper though can I ask about things that do not disappear when you change. Such as backpacks, jewelry, piercings I suppose.

How is that controlled? Such as the armour on the bear forms or the spikes on the base Worgen forms versus the Elven dangly bits and feathers or whatever they are.

Is that up to each druid and how they choose to represent that aspect of the form?

He secreted the statue in the confines of his cloak. As with the rest of his garments and personal effects, it would go in that magical place they did when he transformed.

But when the druid shifted once more to the semblance of a storm crow, he heard a heavy thud. Cocking his head, Broll found the idol lying at his talons.

– Stormrage, pg. 116

This is the most lore we have on druids and where their armour goes upon shapeshifting. It goes to a “magical place”, but that’s sadly all we have; it’s vague, thin, and unexplained. It’s sadly never described what this magical place is, and we have little to no hints to help us figure it out - it’s better to keep it all vague.

In a wardrobe in the Emerald Dream ofc.

I wouldn’t think about it too much.

Real druids don’t wear clothes

Shifting is not like turning into a werewolf. You do not pop your bones and grow fur or feathers. It is nature magic which causes it. When Khadgar turns into a bird, he also doesn’t leave his clothes and other belongings behind. You simply change form as you are and return to it once you shift back. With druids that power comes from the emerald dream. I agree that blizzard hasn’t explained much about it, but when it comes to magic, many things are possible.

I was about to quote Stormrage but Mythundis got ahead of me. So now I have very few things of note to add to this discussion. But to add at least something, I would suggest having your character simply not be willing to talk about it.
They don’t need to reveal how every spell at their disposal works. Just treat it as a secret trick up their sleeves.

This goes on the same basis as being reluctant to share their background. As cool and interesting some information about your character could be, it’s going to be far more rewarding for others to find out through effort instead of finding out soon after meeting them.

It’s the same principle of withholding information, you’re just never going to reveal it, or even if you do, keep it vague.

It’s a deep, dark secret. What they do, the sneaky devils, is throw down a bomb full of knockout gas. Whilst you’re out they run into the nearest bush, strip down and store everything there.

You’re so stunned by the gas you forget it happens. It’s also why, when around Druids, you lose track of time.

…what do you mean that’s not true?

Wherever Optimus Prime’s trailer goes when he transforms into robot mode.

For a more serious answer, in D&D, when you shapeshift, your equipment merges into your new form. So basically this:

And specifically druids in D&D can choose to instead leave the equipment on the ground or have it worn by the new form.

Obviously that doesn’t mean that it’s how it works in Warcraft, but I doubt the WoW writers gave this question any thought whatsoever.

inb4 Dalaran actually has a huge vault full of randomly appearing/disappearing clothes, and none of the magi seem to understand what the actual hell is going on. They’re just sort of rolling with it by now.
