Druid shapeshifting causing stutters and freezes

Since the TBC pre-patch, the game has become unplayable for me due to a stuttering issue. Gradually, over time, Druid shapeshifting will introduce a greater and greater length of a freeze/stutter, until it literally takes seconds to shapeshift.

I completely nuked the game from my system and installed it completely fresh, no add-ons. I can replicate it quickly by spamming “M” for the map for about 10 seconds, then trying to switch to bear/cat. The game will freeze. (would anyone mind trying to replicate that for me?)

I’ve tried:

  • completely nuking the game and starting fresh
  • a few nVidia drivers
  • disabling/enabling GSync
  • DX 11, DX 12, etc options in the game
  • removing additional monitor

I have a 2070 Super, i7 9700k, 16 GB RAM.

Can anyone replicate this, and if not, have any ideas I could try?

UPDATE: I have discovered that it’s got something to do with Humanoid Tracking. Disabling Humanoid Tracking stops the huge stutter. But Humanoid Tracking gets turned on automatically when you go cat again, so the issue eventually returns.

Hi Wilfredo!

So it does sound like that is an odd bug, and I’d recommend reporting it here:

Yours,

Arythwinn

I have the exact same issue it is definitely related to shapeshifting into Cat Form
after a while the stutters get worse and last about 1-2 seconds right after shapeshifting.

You might be right about Humanoid Tracking on Cat Form causing it. I have installed an addon called “DruidTrackDisable” for now. It seems to work, all you have to do is go into Cat Form and disable humanoid tracking manually when logging on, afterwards it remains disabled because of the addon.

Excellent, I tried for ages to find a way to keep Humanoid Tracking off. Nice find!

I will raise the bug with Blizzard next time I get a chance to be in-game.

Where can this addon be downloaded from? This stutter is messing up my rotation completely.

Just google “druidtrackdisable” and the top result will send you to it. It’s from WowInterface.

Unfortunately the stutters started happening even with the addon when going cat form.
I’m surprised there aren’t many more people reporting this as I’ve tried it on a second PC and it happens on there aswell.

My PC Specs are I9 10900K , 30gb ram, Nvidia RTX 3090

Got the same problem. Tried with 0 addons and also tried with the addon druidtrackdisable that was mentioned but lag is still there. After a /reload or a fresh login its good, but as soon as I press world map button enough times the lag starts to come back. So if I spam world map button for a few sec it gets unplayable and I need to /reload.

Same issue. Because of necessity of always shapeshifting in feral rotation it is unplayable. Did someone rid out of this problem ?

Spec:
i9-9900KF
RTX 3090

It’s happening to me aswell. Really annoying. Please fix it.

The addon didn’t seem to fix it unfortunately.

My specs
ryzen 5 3600
rx 5700 xt
So it’s not Nvidia or Intel bound

Addons.
Do you guys use Questie or Leatrix Plus?
I narrowed it down, this only happens for me with either of those two addons on.

I suspect something to do with the cancel form addon options?

Thats not the problem, I ve got both of them and whole day im trying to figure out problem, if u disable both of this addons it will stutter as well while shapeshifting into cat, main problem is it is hard to track because u have to play for a bit to see stuttering again

Actually yes you are right.

It has returned :frowning:

AMD Ryzen 5900
32gb Ram, and GTX 1080 TI Turbo
Windows 10 with DX12

This problem is on blizzard side, if you spam e.g. keybind for map about 10 times, ur shapeshift into cat is going to freeze for more than 2 secs.

The only thing I found out, the less you open map the lesser stutterings happen so u are forced to /reload less frequently

This problem is happening since TBC pre patch it was okay before that day

This is happening to me too, tried with no addons and it doesnt stop the stuttering. Seems to be related to the map, i just spam opened/closed the map about 30 times and its straight away increased the freeze to almost 5 seconds.

The little map you get by pressing shift-m is also turning itself off, maybe related.

That’s the issue, thank you. I’ve noticed that changing graphic settings made the problem go away for a moment, but this did it permamently I think. The tracking should still be fixed.

If you learn either herbalism or mining you can set your tracking type to those resources preventing tracking humanoids from activating every time you shapeshift into cat form and thus fixing the freezing problem for now.
