Druid Tanks are the best!

I’ve had a wonderful time with it, it’s truly great to be able to tank so well with a talent tree that still allows you to do everything else as well.

While warriors can do 100% tanking. Or you leave the raid 10% unfinished?

As a tank druid I must say: You get problems with more than three mobs. Up to three, no problem is the group lets you build some rage, but any more than that and you really have to watch out and taunt whoever runs away…

But I admit that Warriors outshine every other Tank in Vanilla. It was only in TBC that all three tank classes were really put on equal ground, but that doesnt mean that Vanilla Druid Tanks are bad.

People prefere Warriors for good reasons, I admit they have an easier time because they can parry, block and drink potions in encounters, something that druid tanks cant. Sure, you can make a macro that goes out of bear form, drinks and goes back in, but if you dont time that perfectly the boss will smash you to mush…

Druids take less overall damage though. They are actually a better option if you have a well geared healer and there are no damage spikes that can insta-kill you. Sadly most Raid bosses have exactly that.

I still love my druid, I might not be the best at anything, but I can fill every rome my team needs. And that was why I picked Druid in the first place.

Plus, honestly, Tauren Druid just fits my personality too well^^

I’ve had decent success with popping HoTs (Regrowth+Rejuvenation) prior to each pull that has 3+ mobs, and then tab-swiping as well.

I also have better experience with druids than warriors. It also might be that druids as more complicated class are picked by generally more experienced players.
So I like them for all content except maybe raids.

./moo brother

Hell yeah brother. Im a bear tank and im loving it. I main tanked onyxia last night so i dont know why people think druids can’t survive in a raid encounter. High armor value makes up for the lack of defense rating. Im still undergeared and i managed to do just fine in onxyia and MC.

This is cause they have the same tree for tanking and melee dps in one.
Putin like very few extra talents in the same tree is not a big deal to anyone.
So I do agree druids are f**ing awesome tanks cause of it, and had only good experience with them.

if only they werent usless because they dont have any defensive against crushing blows.

so 1-59 - guardian and they resto or gtfo

but there is no other content in endgame besides raids.

I would just like to publicly express my support for feral druids tanking; let us not forget the words of one of their wisest, who unequivocally stated that despite their flexibility they can fulfill this role because bare durids can B 4 tank.

But, more importantly, bare durids is 4 funs when u can charje & stun & haf sum armors lol.

With proper itemization crushing blows are a joke. Currently im sitting at 10k armor and the highest crushing blow ive seen 2.5k when my HP is 7.1k buffed (no flask) and im still missing a few key pieces that will help me lower the damage even more. As I said above, I have no issues with raiding. All you need to do as a bear is to understand how armor works and thats it. Speaking from experience as i main tanked a few bosses in this phase of raiding. Healers had an easy time healing me and dps didnt need to worry about threat management.

They certainly does not; a properly geared druid tank is easily hard capped on armor (75% reduction) when fully buffed and have around 7.5k HP, crushing blow or not, no attack from any boss does 30k damage in a single hit!

Thats what im talking about ma bear! People dont seem to understand how bears work. They just repeat whatever everyone else is saying.

That might actually be the strongest argument for Druid Tanks.
Alot of old Guilds actually prefered Druid Tanks over Warriors for Raid content they had on Farm, because with the Druid they could DPS faster.

I really dont understand why Blizzard didnt put “this ability generates alot of threat” on Maul, when it causes way more threat that Heroic Strike does…

One thing people doesn t seems to understand is that warrior cannot get crush mostly because they have shield block ability, but it only holds 2 charges. So if the boss is attacking faster than once every 2.5s or if the warrior is tanking 2 mobs, they are susceptible to get crush damage.

Thats why warrior go for def cap because shield block is not 100% bullet proof, while blocking prevent crit and crushing blow, removing crit from the table is a safe bet.

Druid cannot go for def cap so they can eat crit and crush, which can proc on the same attack, a crushing blow crit hurts but it hurts less on a bear than a warrior due to the high amount of armor.

So for tanking a fast attacking boss or multiple target druid tank are pretty good. But before warrior can get their thunderfury druid tank really shine for the threat as mentioned previously and are the best for clearing farmed content.

While bear is starting to get trouble generating threat for 3+ targets ( you can handle 5, but more than that and it start to be hard to ), paladin have no problems tanking unlimited amount of target, they are even more multi target oriented than the others 2 tank, and the lack of taunt clearly shows that they are not suppose to tank bosses.
Tanking with paladin in 5 man is really easy even if you aggro multiple pack at the same time, you can be sure no mobs will go and bother the healer.

I would say warrior can handle 3 mob decently, Druid tank 5, and paladin as much as they can survive.

Each tank got their weakness and strength, for tanking single bosses warrior is the best, but for anything else the others 2 can shine more.

Too bad feral tanks shrug off CBs like they were nothing, at 60. Do you have any experience whatsoever or are you just spitballing?

For majority of bosses Druid is best, until Warrior get his T2 then they are about equal (although druid still have slightly higher TPS), as mentioned earlier in this thread certain bosses require warrior tanks because of mechanics requiring having multiple fear-breaks/Defensive CDs.

Warriors are highly gear dependent, Druids are not.

What I really love about Druid is the amount of damage you can push out before you actually start to tank.

I like to pull with balance spells, HoT myself and then go Bear.

Normaly my pull looks like this:
Wrath-Regroth while Wrath is flying-Moonfire-Rejuvenation-Bear

That way I already have alot of Aggro before the mobs reaches me, 2 HoTs ticking which a) counters the first boss blow and b) generates extra threat and the energy from Transforming with the Tier 1 Talent from the Healing Tree.

Druid tanks are like a special treat when healing it’s just so rare to get them.
