Druids in RETAIL

Hey lads, I’m considering levelling a druid in retail. Apart from a giant nerf, what do I have to look forward to at end game? I wanna do mythic shenanigans, but I really don’t wanna go through the boring af BFA quests, etc. to level up my neck.

Also how are druids in PVP?

Druids are always gonna be viable in any of the specs available.
I’m not sure what you mean by the “nerfs”, as i haven’t seen any that has made the spec unplayable.
As it stand currently, all four specs are viable in HCraiding, and M+. Feral might guardian might fall a bit behind due til utility and overall kit, though i still play all specs with no major problems.
In pvp they’re not bad either, both Balance and Feral are viable while Resto is pretty decent for 3’s and bg’s.

I dinged 120 a day ago on this and I’m enjoying mythics as cat.

Thats good to hear! am glad you’re enjoying kitty spec.

(arthen here) having a lot of fun with cat still, but want to be more useful now, so looking at going Guardian.

Even as a cat though, you have a lot of utility. CR and the ability to assist healing has paid off a lot in some niche situations for me.

I love feral, even tho I miss the mancat talent from wod when we could cast spells in cat form.
The off healing we can provide is pretty substantial, and we bring combat res and roots. But we do have to work alot harder than alot of other classes for our dps.

In pvp, resto druids are at the top alongside holy paladins I would say.
Feral is kind of in a wierd spot. Good ferals can still do fairly well in arena, but bad ferals will get destroyed pretty much.
But I shouldn’t say too much since my own arena experience is limited.

My conclusion about feral druids is that it’s an unforgiving spec to play in most aspects of the game. But that’s partly the reason I like to play it.
It feels awesome to end up at the top of the meter when people expect you to be at the bottom.

Resto druids are the best healers in both pvp and pve.All the other druid spec are not good in pvp. Feral is bad in both.

I’m with you there. I think the whole working a lot harder to match dps of others is a trade off though. You will struggle to keep up with a rogue but you’ll never see a rogue support healing a tank to keep him up like we can.

Unfortunately people tend to be quite dim and just see the dps icon and think UR JUST DPS. They don’t consider the utility.

Yeah people really underestimate the utility of a feral druid.
Resto affinity can make a huge difference if there is alot of damage incoming.
That and roots, stuns, B-res, stampeding roar, 15 yard ranged interrupt. And death skips if you’re nelf.
And if you know what you’re doing, the damage a feral can do is really good.

You can’t explain it to every m+ leader sadly. Same reason why I quit playing discipline priest since I wanted to do really high keys, but no one just invites you.
Majority of cats will underperform so nobody gonna risk taking random feral:/

Balance is good all-round spec, also if you turn off dps meter kitty is pretty enjoable.

Attack is best defence, it’s better to nuke trash faster than be studier and do fights longer. Talking about M+

Yeah sure, assuming nobody will ever stand in the fire and everyone will perform perfectly.
Not always the case tho. Sometimes everything goes according to plan, but sometimes it doesn’t.
For people who aren’t sheep that only play the MDI meta comp, feral druids are fine if you know how to play them.

So if you want to assume, you must assume that kitty player will be very very good and will utilise every utility spell correctly which has lower chance than bringing another good dps to the group.

That applies to every class tho. So you assume that any rogue you find in lfg is gonna be better than a feral druid?
Also, everything depends on what you are trying to do. If you’re gonna do a +25 key, yeah sure you need to be more picky. But a +10 can be done with any comp.

I’m not assuming that every rogue player is better than every feral player, but rogue rotation and utilities are way easier to execute, so even smart monkey would do that, when feral needs very decent player behind the wheel to perform good.

I agree that M+ up to + 10 can be done with whatever you like.

Ok so our opinions don’t differ that much after all.
What Im trying to say to OP is that druids aren’t by any means bad. He shouldn’t feel like he’s gimping himself just by rolling a druid instead of a rogue or DH.

And when I read the original post again I realize he’s not even asking about feral specifically, but druids in general
So to sum it up 2 out of 4 druid specs are in high demand for keys, and resto is probably top 2 in pvp with holy paladins.
