Ds3d + eax?

It’s come to my attention that the old client supported EAX. Which presumably means it used DirectSound3D as well since that is a requirement for EAX. I also assume that the new client simply uses basic software 2D audio. Yet another classic game with downgraded audio on a modern system. Is it possible to get at least OpenAL support so those of us who choose can use openal-soft, or if you have an actual 3D sound card still? Or maybe port the 3D audio engine to XAudio3D instead? At the very, very least re-enable DS3D so that something like ALchemy or dsoal can still be used.
