Much to my excitement I discovered that players in Classic Hardcore are now able to settle their scores permanently, in the good old-fashioned way. And while in Hardcore this adds an additional sense of finality considering that you only get one chance per character, it would still be a pretty good feature in retail despite the more casual state of the current game. Three main reasons for this:
Immersion. Friendly duels are always welcome but some people feel a greater sense of completion when the duels are actually lethal.
Roleplay. RP isn’t all about writing long emotes or sitting on a bench in Stormwind and /ignoring everyone who attempts to communicate with you. RP can be creative, RP can be unpredictable and most importantly, RP can be fun. RP servers will become much more alive and exciting if bypassers can get to witness two feuding noblemen settling their scores in a fencing/pistol duel.
Fun. The most important reason of all, and the only thing we should be looking for in-game. I really want duels, after all I’m quite literally dressed to kill.
Duels are fun. Except if you’re the Marquis de Gramont.
You would thrive on a hardcore PVP server in Everquest …
You even be able to loot the corpse of the other player to take his gold and items…
I only played on those servers once…never again…/shiver
They might have change the perma death but i think the loot hold and items still exsists
But no, keep the Duel to Death to Hardcore Classic.
Imagine the BS experience of a new player not knowing that is meant literal and engaging with another (potentially higher geared) player in one, only to learn they can never play their char ever again…
UNLESS…
Blizzard changes the formula and it isn’t a “Duel to the Death” but rather a “Duel of Superiority”.
If you lose, you can never again engage with that person in a duel and are bound forever to have lost to that person. And all players around you will see and hear it due to text/audio-cues.
That would be a fair way to implement it without too much gameplay downsides.
Blizzard could also add a bet-system for that which requires both players to bet a custom amount of gold (it has to be 1:1 the same as the other participants bet). Whoever wins, gets all the money.
Reminds me of duels back in the day. People that claim to love them were the kind of players that stood all day in Durotar spamming everyone with duel requests.
Not everyone actually. Rather mostly classes and specs they had the upper hand on or lower-geared players.
Have your fun is classic with it, i don’t mind. But retail is not tailored with perma-death in mind, so it would not work, imho.
