Duelling and self-heal - bad form?

I was just challenged to a duel, and haven’t duelled before. I won, but my opponent criticised me for using self-heal. Is using self-heal frowned upon in duelling? My level 35 Ret Pally is quite squishy at the moment and I don’t think I could win without it.

Using any cooldown or healing you have is fair play in Duelling unless you agree beforehand not to use them.

Thanks. No agreement beforehand, I guess they were just annoyed at having lost.

id have said its fine, unless you made a pact to not heal and you both were offheal or heal spec/class.
Sounds to me like a grouchy dps who didn’t like losing.

Could be lay on hands. Using that in duels is considered bad form

Healing abilities are part of your arsenal, if you have them then use them, they’re an integral part of your class and anyone challenging you should realise it.
Anyone that thinks using self heals in a duel is wrong is just trying to compensate for not being able to play their class effectively and/or is just a sore loser.

I would say it is fair game, but keep in mind, low level duels are so incredibly unbalanced.

I reckon you can heal like 25% of your health in a heal, and at level 35 your opponent probably has no way to deal with it, in which case it could be considered bad form to just reset like that in low level duel, but i wouldn’t say so.

I could understand the criticism, but i don’t agree, using your entire toolkit should not be bad form, but who cares, it’s low level pvp XD

Healing has always been broken in MMOs.

If in a scenario, you have 100 hp, and a mob takes away 99, but an explosive heal gives you 100 hp again and again?

Even with classes give a tiny heal, they basically feel the godliness of this mechanic, ex. affliction warlocks in legion.

There’s nothing you can do, the game revolves around this: Tanks and healers, with dps that hopefully get noticed and never get targeted by the mob. Hunters know what I’m talking about when the healer doesn’t notice them.

That’s why it’s broken in duels, some dps heals better than others.

No, I wouldn’t say this was bad form at all. Otherwise, you could say “hunters always running” is as well, mages blinking. Every class has it’s own “specific” way of playing with a “bad form”, but, that’s all part of the dual.

The only time it’s considered bad form is if you made an agreement beforehand of “no healing”. If you didn’t, then this is just a sore loser (Which you’ll find a few people are like this).

I have to agree with this person.

Classes are designed around their toolkit, so if you can heal or protect yourself in any way, you’re meant to use it against other players if necessary.

For real, any ability you have you can use in a duel, there are no rules. “I want to duel you, but you can’t stealth, use stuns or heal!”.

Yeah, that’s what I assumed. I used Flash of Light once, I was avoiding using bubble and don’t have LoH yet but in the end I was nowhere near needing them anyway.

This was on my first Horde character - I’m levelling a belf Ret with PvP switched off at the moment as I’m just doing it for the Horde storyline and quest stories. I suspect the challenger thought I was a noob who didn’t do PvP and would be an easy win. But I play Ret in Warmode on Alliance, doing Faction Assaults pretty much every day, and can usually beat a shammy cat 1v1 without too much trouble.

Very bad form old chap, Marquess of Queensbury rules only. No DPS abilities or any of that malarkey.

It would however appear that you damaged his epeen and he is now a special kind of B-hurt.
