Ok, so first off, I know that the debuff when kicked is intended to prevent players from holding their groups hostage when they don’t want to do the content they got queued into.
I am just now waiting to get Dungeon Deserter to wear off.
Queued into heroic Mists (can’t be bothered to play the group finder game for M+ for my weeklies), didn’t troll, carried half the memory game without mistake while we had two mistakes when I didn’t enter first, did good damage as I am ‘slightly’ overgeared for hc, didn’t write anything in chat. In short, I don’t see anything that would be my fault I should be kicked for. Yet, shortly before the last boss I get kicked. No idea why/for what.
Even if someone made out a mistake somewhere, it’s heroic and we never wiped, so I didn’t brick anything.
I can’t see me getting Deserter here be a reasonable outcome. I know that it’s “working as intended” according to the changed way it works, but when this behavior isn’t the outcome of a bug, it’s just plain stupid. If it’s possible to be punished twice like this, this can’t be the solution.
If Blizz were capable of actually dealing with user reports in a meaningful way, I’d suggest having them actually review kicks with a new reason specifically for those hostage-holding situations and punish those players after the fact in some way, but I guess that would require work, thus isn’t going to happen.
While nobody can really police groups for their reason to kick, you got a deserter debuff because earlier this expansion the playerbase overreacted over people leavig dungeons midway after doing the boss they were targetting.
The issue was going to resolve itself once the tryhards moved to M+ but the playerbase insisted that everyone who leaves (or gets kicked) midway gets deserter debuff even if they already killed a boss (which was the way to avoid it in the past) and so here we are.
It’s an ‘overreaction’ to expect players to complete the full dungeon on LFR? I think you’re off the mark on that one. Those with a… “focused” approach can crack on and do single-boss runs in a pre-made group.
I feel for the OP being kicked. Blizzard clearly struggles designing around players who are hell-bent on being unreasonable. (I had a selection of words at hand but they’d get filtered.) There don’t appear to be too many easy solutions.
I wouldn’t take it personal. You are with 4 strangers on the internet. This is why I love playing multiple characters at the same time. If one happens to get the deserter dungeon debuff (usually because I made the mistake of queueing for a normal dungeon, instead of TW) I immediately change to another character.
When this discussion was more relevant I’ve already suggested solutions that involved incentivizing people to stay like some sort of bad luck protection currency. Instead you’re just trying to force players even more.
People will just leave the wings that they already have partial progress in or only need one boss for last, when the deserter debuff doesn’t bother them anymore. People might just quit the game because they made gearing in heroic dungeons harder. Can’t even quit midway for a faster queue and no way to counter bad luck like I suggested they do instead.
