Not wanting to add to the many whiny posts about DF (I’m personally enjoying it and its the first time in a long time I feel I’m playing a WOW expansion)
There a few niggles here and there, such as poor explanations to profession specialties, but one peeve I’ve had and one thats been around for many expansions is…
Dungeon Drops.
In the old times, each boss would drop items, sometimes it was something you could use and sometimes was for a different class.
Nowadays you can run through a whole dungeon and get, not one single drop (I don’t count gold as a drop, the game practically throws plenty at you!), to add you can run several dungeons in a row and see nothing drop and this for me isn’t an enjoyable experience.
At the start of an Expansion when you trying to gear up to do harder content, running endless dungeons and going no where quick is quite frustrating when you want to ditch that low level green piece or get better weapons.
I know there are other (possibly better!) ways to get newer equipment, but still dungeons should still feel rewarding, getting gold only is not.
Agree. Personal loot in dungeons is far too stingy. The old system of guranteed drops then getting to need/greed depending on your class worked far better. The players have been saved from ninja looters at the expense of being able to make reliable progress on their character. The probability of a boss dropping nothing for you has got to be at least 70-80%. You can run a 5 boss dungeon, with 5 players, and see maybe 3 -4 drops throughout the whole thing. It’s pretty lame.
IT was always like this you just rememeber it wrong. On start of expansion everyone needs everything . So its natural that without others traiding you gear you feel like you are not getting as much upgrades.
He isn’t remembering it wrong. It was distinctly easier to get gear through dungeons back in Vanilla, TBC and Wrath. Every boss was guranteed to drop something. Even if you didn’t need it, someone in the group probably would. And even then if you went through a whole dungeon not getting any loot drops, you would be getting badges that you could trade in for gear. Often the only things that people had to actually farm for, were rare drops like mounts.
I think the problem is deeper than that. Its about the gear itself. Now no one cares about what a dungeon drops (name of gear) but previously You knew that if You need this loot it was in this and this dungeon from xxx boss and You would get it eventually. Now You dont know this and it seems like You are missing something.
Each boss Does drop something. One item per five people. If you got nothing, and are on mythic, someone, the person the game wanted to give the loot to, is loot locked.
The problem is that there used to be more than one item. I remember a lot of dungeons dropping two items per boss.
I’ve gone many runs getting nothing because it apparently wasn’t my turn according to the game, and it’s annoying.
If players believe in this gaslighting they deserve exactly the people who made these changes to be in charge of this game.
A match made in lake of sulfur, no less.
It was so much more rewarding, (or felt like it) in the older expansions.
You would go in to an instance and come out with packs full of loot. Much of it was greens, blues for other classes and other odds and ends, that would be sold off, but the point was it felt like you were running a dungeon. Killing beasties and getting loot.
It was rewarding.
The system we have now just feels like you’re wasting your time.
this is just the inherent nature of RNG (the R stands for random) sometimes you lose and sometimes its winner winner chicken dinner. What’s the use moaning about it when it’s out of anyone control, I don’t moan everytime i lose the loterry so why is this any different.
Play the games, eventually get the loot. I’m sure the braniac wizards at blizzard have it all under wraps with the formula worked out so it’s equal and fair for everyone. You can’t win them all chief!!
I’ve done the same dungeon probably 10-15 times to get some boots now. And it’s ALWAYS some Evoker/shaman/other hunter getting them. Kinda sucks to queue up to the same dungeon over and over and over again and seeing someone else getting the item you need, and of course they also need it.
I’m probably the opposite then, as my first mythic dungeon gave 3 upgrades and many others also had 2 pieces for me.
It’s pure luck, but also depends on boss count. Each of them appears to only drop one so in Ruby Life Pools you’re not as likely to get loot as in a 5 boss one.
You can also ask for drops from party members, I used this to trade upgrades on one occasion
Issue is levelling dungeons are the worst offender here, you can run the same dungeon over 30 times to get a drop from the first boss and STILL not see it drop, IN A LEVELLING DUNGEON. By the time you try to get a single drop you can level almost 3 whole levels, JUST from the dungeon of the FIRST pack of mobs.
If you know how long it takes to get experience from trash mobs in dungeon you will fully understand how dumb the normal (levelling) dungeon drops are…
TBH I dont think it matters much in leveling dungeons or heroic. The gear you get from quests does you fine and once you hit max level you can easily get gear thats just as good from WQs or other open world content.
I havent done many at all but I still have my dungeon transmog completed.
Although I am annoyed at the drop rate of dragon manuscripts. Cant get those suckers anywhere else and they never seem to drop!
