Im running WoW on 7 (settings) with these specs : GTX 1050 , I5 4690.Im able to pull 60+ FPS easily in all zones, but recently im experiencing stuttering. My fps would be like 100 then all of sudden drop to 45 and go back to 100.
What im trying to achieve is to reduce work for gpu/cpu so I tried turning Vsync ‘‘On’’ in Nvidia Control Panel and in game, but it wasn’t that good, switchting to ‘‘Fast’’ in NCP seemed to work nice and capped my fps to 60 most of time, but I would experience drop occasionally(some people say I should keep it on ‘‘Fast’’ in NCP but having It turned off in game.Or should I use ‘‘Adaptive’’ Vsync instead ?
I heard that Fast Vsync doesn’t work with Dx12,is that true ? because I tested new Graphic API settings, and Dx11(Legacy) gives worst performance, while Dx11 and Dx12 are either equal or sometimes one can become better,im not sure but I think Dx11 gives more stable FPS unlike Dx12.Im totally confused and don’t know what to do.
I would appreciate any kind of help. Thanks

I have a GTX 1060 running on Win7. I couldn’t even select DX12 but I’ll probably find out why soon. Either way, if I remember this correctly, fast sync doesn’t work unless a game is fullscreen. Ever since the release of BfA where they forced everyone to switch to windowed fullscreen, the vsync is handled by Windows unless you turn aero off by choosing a basic theme. (Not sure how Win8 and 10 handles this)
Fast sync used to work wonders for me until 7.3 where they first changed something with the frame limiting in the game. Now that it’s windowed fullscreen that doesn’t make things better. Personally the smoothest result I’ve had so far (which is far from perfect like it was pre-7.3) is setting in-game vsync to off, and max fps to 60. (since my monitor is 60hz)
Not sure if adaptive vsync could work, I’m gonna experiment with it, but I know fast sync is the superior method since it causes less input lag but I think it’s impossible with windowed fullscreen.
Legacy DX11 is for oldest hardware that can’t do anything better (heavily single threaded with high driver overhead). Second DX11 (multithreaded) is the GoTo option. DX12 can be used by cards that actually support DX12 in high enough level (some older cards are labeled as DX12 compatible but they are like 11_1 with feature level).
As for Pascal nVidia (1000 series) - it’s supposed to be best at the DX11 multithreaded mode in WoW. DX12 in theory should be best for AMD cards and Nvidia Turing (2000 series, 1660 Ti).
To limit framerate to screen refresh rate use the frame limiter in the settings of the game.
