Dynamic Flying Combat

I’ve been actually doing that for 2 weeks now, but especially when I play other games it becomes clear how uncreative and safe wow is when it comes to meaningful gameplay innovation. I think in regards to player combat, they still have a long way to go, but imo, the next step of innovation would be vehicle combat. It also fits Warcraft really well.

If you think of wintergrasp and ulduar, vehicle combat has been in the game since wrath of the lich king, but since then, they don’t seem to have refined it outside of some badly implemented quest sequences. I think they should work on making it an actual gameplay element to add variety to boss fights/dungeons, and more epic cinematic encounter design.

Imagine you fly on dynamic flying mounts with a 20 person raid around a giant who tries to stomp you. They could add Fights that remind of God of War. Ground Vehicle combat could also feel very epic as well.

→ Also, not saying all combat should be vehicle, but it’d be nice, if it was simply an actual significant and fun/epic part of it.

While I like the idea of it and have played games like Century: Age of Ashes.
I feel like they just would not be able to make it work well mechanic wise in WoW.

Vehicle combat in WoW has never been good and that’s on the ground.
The few flying vehicle combat we have had have been worse than that.

So adding dynamic flying would make it nearly unplayable with slow reaction of the engine.

Could be cool as a spinoff game though.

I don’t think tha’ts actually a problem btw. Else they could just add a combat mode, where mounts hover or become slow, when you start to shoot. This stuff is really not problematic on a technological level. Just requires some creativity and out-of-the-box thinking

I don’t feel like it would work well in WoW, and even if it did, the player base wouldn’t receive it well. It’s rather far from the game model WoW has always been. Dynamic riding is already a huge step forward and a good one if you ask me, it makes flying more fun for the ones who want and like it, but it’s opt in.

For aerial combat to work, I feel like it would need to be a totally optional and non mandatory activity, like the occasional short world quest, but nothing more beyond that. It’s not an area where I can see the game evolving to in a good way, there are other features I would like to see improved or created though. Player housing, for a start, more world content and things to do beyond dungeons and raids. Visions and torghast were good experiments if you ask me, they could keep refining those since they already have good amounts of feedback and experience. They sure had their huge share of problems, but now they are known.

Sounds to me like you got bored of wow so you want to turn it into something else.
Rather than go find another game to play which is what most people do you want to turn wow into a cross between call of duty and Forza.
Personally, like i said, i dont care if they add it to pvp because then i dont have to engage in it but shooting lasers out of a flying horse just sounds stupid.
I know that wow sometimes stretches the imagination a bit but lets retain a semblance of sensibility.

Just don’t play all the time WoW.

They even have a loading screen prompt telling you to not play WoW too much. There are other games. Take a break, come back when you enjoy the game again.

I’m not playing anymore for a while. I’m not bored of warcraft as a genre, but as a game I think it lacks innovation. Why are people so afraid of having something interesting added like mounted combat? I would like to see some meaningful innovations other than 8 dungeons 3 raids. I don’t really care about the esports side. I only care about fun and being entertained in the game.

It sounds stupid, because you invented this statement, which nobody said. I’m talking about throwing storm hammers from a gryphon as it’s cannon in the lore.

I can revert the logic: Maybe if you don’t like vehicle combat and don’t wanna see any, go quit the game yourself? Vehicle combat is part of wow since wotlk. Vaults has vehicle combat on first boss. I simply ask to modernise vehicle combat and let us have our own usable vehicles.

No it doesn’t bore me. I love playing my hunter.

Nope.

Any time they’ve tried that sort of thing, I’ve hated it.
If you are bored with the gameplay, maybe it’s time for you to find a game that suits your needs more, instead of wanting to change what this game is?

I asked to add things in my post, not to alter existing things

So the game can never have any new gameplay additions?

Or you go play classic if you wanna play a game that never gets something new?

But you are!
You even asked for it to be part of raid fights or dungeons; that’s altering existing things.
Hell, you’re asking for ‘flight’ to be altered. THAT is altering exisiting things.

No, it can. And they have, plenty of times.
But I’m just just giving you MY opinion on the matter. I don’t like vehicle gameplay. Simple. So I don’t want a greater emphasize to be put on that. I also don’t want dynamic flying, combat or not, to be part of other activities. Because for me flying is to get from point A to point B; nothing more, nothing less. I hate the dragonriding races for instance.

Nope because I like retail. I like new content. Just not the type of thing you’re asking for.
I’ve liked lots of new things they’ve added to the game over the years. But I know what type of gameplay I like and dislike; and vehicle gameplay is something I hate.

As for Classic: It’s ugly and most importantly; I’ve done it already. I don’t have the urge to play a fake version of what I played years ago.

Because the game isn’t centered around mounted fighting.

That’s like asking to add football as an endgame activity in an MMORPG.

A genre shift is not an evolution, it’s just a genre shift.

I hate the flying we’ve had in dungeon and raid so far.

They need to make it skippable like the maze in DOTI.

Have you ever been in isle of conquest, wintergrasp, ulduar, amirdrassil, Nokhud, or vault of the incarnates? Also, every single campaign has a form of vehicle combat, and a lot of world quests have it as well. Also, adding one style of combat to certain fights is not a genre shift. That’s just adding a unique epic mechanic to the game that hasn’t been seen before in other mmorpgs

I think it’d be cooler, if they just split the roles up, where you have maybe 80% of the raid go flying and 20% do something else or use ground vehicle.

In Nokhud and Amirdrassil though you can just mount the dragon of someone else

I don’t do PvP but a lot of people hate Nokhud (and the Occulus) as well as Flame Leviathan for those reasons. Vault of the Incarnates it’s filler before a fight if I recall correctly, so I guess most people just shrug it off.

Campaign quests are casual content, the more serious content gets the more people are annoyed by being required a different set of skills than what was required so far.

See the running gauntlet in DotI, people who are not skilled Sonic the Hedgehog players hate that it’s in a time restricted dungeon.

I love the DotI thing with this arcade part. It’s fun and gives the game more gameplay variety. Also, why do you speak for other players? Speak only for yourself. It’s always a very stupid argument, when some people say that most people prefer something because of 5 people on the forum.

Of course it can and many people make suggestions all the time…
Its just that yours is the first ever post i have seen asking for this. No one as far as i can tell has asked for this to be added to the game.
So its a niche thing that you want and it seems to be receiving a luke warm reception at best…
