Early Khaz Algar Zone Review

Isle of Dorn is beautiful, albeit a bit sparse. As with the Azure Span, “Designed for Skyriding” basically means you hop between pockets of content. The music in this zone is incredible, and the little villages and wooded areas are 10/10.

The Ringing Deeps is okay. It’s a zone that’ll remind you of Zarelek, and it feels a bit claustrophobic. I’ve found a few nice locations within this zone, but overall it feels like it mostly exists as a bridge between the surface and the deeper zones, and struggles finding its own identity.

Hallowfall is nice. The openness and bordering underground sea, combined with the Beledar and lush vegetation, lets the zone almost trick you into believing it is outside. However, the zone feels smaller than I thought it would, partly because much of it is being occupied by generic cliffs and crevices serving as battlefields for the Arathi and the Nerubians. I would’ve liked to see a more open landscape though.

Azj-Kahet is cool, but too gloomy and unnatural for me. It feels like a place better suited for a patch, as it risks overstaying its welcome this way. Kind of like the Maw, or the dead areas in Ardenweald.

Overall, I rate Khaz Algar 7/10. Not enough natural landscapes and traditional biomes for me, and having no open sky in 3/4 zones will drive me crazy. That said, what’s there is really well made.
