Yes, it’s hard to see. But that’s not the problem with this spell. The true issue with it is that it forces your team mates into a stationary gameplay.
It’s already true for PvE, but it’s amplified in PvP.
How am I supposed to expect the DH player in my team who’s chasing after a ranged caster and spamming Fel Rush to “stay in Earthen” for 18 seconds?
No other healer features such clunky mechanics. It’s beyond outdated.
The fix is simple:
Make Earthen Wall Totem a “backpack totem” that appears on your target and follows them around. Your target “becomes” the totem.
Reduce the effectiveness of EWT by 20% or so, because it now has 100% uptime on the main target.
There. This spell can now function properly in modern WoW. You’re welcome, I’m always happy to help.
Is this similar to the Maldraxxus Banner for Warriors? Where it was planted on the ground and a bit useless so they changed it to your back… at least I think they did.
I think it would be cool to have totems on your back that you could occasionally use as a buff. It would be a great hero class thing for Shamans based off the Tauren with their totem poles.
Indeed. It would be great both from a gameplay and a fantasy point of view. It would eliminate a lot of the frustration that comes with playing a Resto Shaman.
I don’t like that. Totems are a clear part of shaman’s class identity and the nature of totems is, well, that they’re static beings providing auras. Also number nerfs for earthen wall’d suck because the totem’s prime function is to counter smaller incoming dmg instances with high frequency rather than big hits. So it isn’t even an universal answer against a lot of things. What they could do besides visual updates is to make the buff lingering for a few seconds after leaving the totem’s radius. Would also add to the skill requirements for the shaman to relocate it with projection because with that you can maximise the buff uptime with good attention to the positioning of enemies and allies alike. Similiar to how windrush totem functions.
You mean like disc priests barrier?
Or holy priests angle form (Forces the priest to stay stationary) ?
The totem you can at least move or use totemic recall to reduce the CD by 100% and essentially get an extra charge…
The totem is meant as a defensive spell, not offensive, imagine if you every what 30-45 seconds could use that totem like the way you wanted to? holy damn unkillable targets
EDIT: You can even use your static totem, incap totem, earthgrab totem and slow totem to either help your DH by having enemy stay in your totem range or slow their attempt to get away
Unlike those, EWT is 1 minute CD and lasts 18 seconds.
It’s a significant part of the “rotation”, and not a big cooldown that you only use once in case of emergency.
Earthen wall won’t save you against the burst of a WW, Ret or, let’s say, sub rogue. These classes all deal their dmg in their burst windows with large hits and against this kind of dmg earthen wall is basically useless. I already wrote about what this totem is about.
yes so whats your argument of making EWT more powerful? You said:
This is not true… Almost every healer has a stationary healing ability in some way shape or form… The difference is, shamans have ways of utilizing all their totems to their benefit and let them synnergize where as you missclick your barrier or they move out of it? Bad luck… Oh people LoS your angel form? Baaaad luck… When people outrange your tranquility? Bad luck Brian… Oh you’re a MW? have fun putting down your statue every other second…
Why are you talking like thats the only spell shamans have? If they have Earthen Wall moving WITH the target they have everything else for burst? So whats your point?
It is very usable. You just need to be able to use your totems correctly.
If you can’t utilize your totems for your benefit, that would equal you playing disc priest but hard casting heals the entire fight and wanting a buff for flash heal
My point is/was that earthen wall doesn’t make players “unkillable targets” in general it’s a situationally good cd against certain classes. Also I’m not even advertising the “mobile backpack earthen wall” thing. I suggested to make the buff it provides lingering like it does for windrush totem.
I never said the earthen wall itself would make targets unkillable. More the idea of a “backpack EWT” would… Because that would mean the shaman could just stay ranged and let his team follow the enemy all game without having to play defensive… usually in 2v2 you have to retreat at times, LoSing enemy healer and either force enemy dps to fall back or risk dying himself… If this was highly mitigated by EWT following, it would be insane…
The issue is not the totem or “outdated mechanics” its because people don’t understand how to play the healer or play with the healer… All they wanna do is zugzug burst and if they die go with the classic “Hellooo??? heal???” xD
So does Shaman.
You can root them in place, you can slow them to mitigate their running away, you can static totem to keep them in place or even move the static totem ontop of your earthen wall, or even move your earthen wall to also reach behind the pillar…
Alternatively, you can even earthen wall one side, totemic recall and earthen wall the other side and GGs.
Sounds like you find the use of totems in synnergy too complex?
But what is “modern day gameplay” you keep using words that you dont explain.
That also means then, druid, disc, and holy should be changed? Because you talking about druid HoTS doesnt change tranquality as a mechanic. Just like you only want to talk about EWT and not the rest of the toolkit.
And considering shamans are only overshadowed by rdruid, fistweaver and holy pally with a little bit, I would say they are stable?
Tranquility only lasts 8 seconds and has a 3 minute CD.
EWT lasts 18 seconds and has a 1 minute CD.
And by Discs, who are 40% of all healers on the ladder.
Rsham is only overshadowed by literally everyone else except Prevoker, yes. I guess it’s doing well then?
So static totem, ability to move totems or slow down the gameplay? Done
I dont see how this is a counter argument? You’re basically saying you can cast your totem (with totemic recall) what… 5 times against 1 tranq? And you dont think that fits “constant repositioning” ?
Looking at all players and not at 2400+ would be the mistake. That just proves you are including people that either doesnt understand how to play the class or healer
At 2400+ shaman is 1.9% equal to disc, with holy pally at 3.9%, both holy priest and preserve is below.
So yeah I would say they fit the general “modern gameplay” pretty well
And ironic that the newest adition to the role apparantly doesn’t fit if we go by your measuring metric?
EDIT: So yeah. The problem really just seem you don’t understand how to utilize your shaman rather than EWT not being “good enough” as a static placed totem
EDIT 2: Even if we look at top 5000 players resto shaman is actually nr. 3 healer, with fistweaver and resto being untop. So here holy paladin actually falls below. So again, resto shaman seems pretty fine in SS
If you’re only using a spell once every 3 minutes, and it only lasts 8 secondes, you’re much less likely to waste it. You’ll use it once and most likely heal your targets for nearly all of its duration.
Besides, the radius of Tranquility is much greater than that of EWT.
Have you even played this season? There is a huge deflation issue.
There’s basically nobody above that rating: https://drustvar.com/pvp/representation?bracket=3v3®ion=all&rating=2400&option=spec
