Out of Prot Warrior and Vengeance DH which one is easier for one to learn M+? My experience is limited but the classes im familiar with
Easiest for a beginner?
I just had a look on YouTube, which I sugegst you do, and found these two videos from reliable sources:
While they do differ a little, both agree that Prot Warrior, Bear Druid, and Blood DK are easier than the other tanks.
While that may be true in general, you also have to consider what feels natural to you. You might find Monk easier than any of them, if it fits the way you already think.
If you have it down to Warr vs DH, I’d look at tanking instruction vids for each of them to see what clicks with you.
Thank you I’ll watch these ! I always forget YouTube which is crazy…
I would second (or third) that, with one caveat. BDK is conceptually and mechanically easy, yes. But if you do not fully understand the mechanics and /or ignore them for even a second, you have a binary health bar.
It´s easy to play on paper, but not so easy to play correctly, if you go yoloing into a big pull without defensives up, the only person that´s going to be holding threat is the healer that tried to save you from yourself
I see, do you have any experience on DH compared to warrior? These two seem to be taking my interest the most
Unfortunately, I no longer tank on my warrior since shadowlands and therefore can only somewhat comment on the current state based on past expereince. And I despise demon hunters with a passion only Maiev can equal. I do ofc have one, and i do play it in Vengeance spec, but I just don´t like the playstyle oferall, it´s basically a crafting alt at this point.
But of the 3 recommended (Protwarrior, Guardian Druid, BDK), I would personally recommend Guardian Druid to a true beginner… very forgiving of minor and even medium errors due to the large healthpool, doesn´t have multiple cooldowns to manage, and the basic rotation is quite simple. Imo the easiest tank spec bar none to perform reasonably well with. But on the flipside somewhat unlikely to be seen at the very highest end of the performance spectrum for the same reasons.
Credulon, I agree with you about Bear, but I can never seem to enjoy it.
Dkychaos, can I ask: do you have Warrior and DH levelled already? Have you tried them in tank spec in TWW yet, even for WQ or Delves?
If so, what do you see as the plusses and minuses of each? What do you like about them?
For example, Me, I stan Paladin. Avenger’s Shield is one of the great pleasures in life, and I’m happy I have a button for EVERYTHING! OK, I’m slow to move, but I get there.
Both DH and Prot Warr have a style of jumping around like a demented flea. Is that what draws you to those two? Do you like planning your next jump?
How do you feel about the Sigils of VDH? They are one of the two things that wreck the spec for me, but some people enjoy placing them.
Do you get a little boost from every Victory Rush?
What are the little things that you enjoy?
Same , My personal favorite between the 3 I still regularly play is Prot pally, followed by BDK and then guardian.
But it´s arguably the hardest of the 3, while teh DK ist just straight up unkillable, even after the changes to how death strike works… I fondly remember doing things like the last 3% of Sylvanas HC on BDK, on the last platform completely covered in the black goop, alone, because everyone else was already dead… she hits me for half of my life, I hit her back and heave full life again, rinse and repeat until I win
But still, Divine Toll = Best button in the game, end of discussion. Even if it were only the sound effect, it would still be the best button in the game
Interesting question and one that made me think about it tbh; I have both at 80 BTW but I’m only doing normal dungeons ATM as I don’t want to waste anyone’s time.
Prot warrior I’d say I love the traditional sword and shield style, I love thunderclap, charge etc so far it seems to me you maintain shield block 100% of the time and ignore pain for smoothing then you have your oh crud buttons? I’m probably wrong but it’s fun play style.
Plus it’s plate and I enjoy Fury/Arms.
However… haha
Vengeance DH seemed weird to me at first but once I realised you prioritise the uptime of your spikes and then utilise the sigils it became a more…interesting? Spec.
Aldrachi Reaver tanking also feels incredibly, fun but I have a very limited experience so I’m not sure how well I’d execute in M+ scenarios but I love the approaches to multi target and single target with it’s inclusion of the hunt.
I’m leaning slightly more towards DH the more I think about it and if I’m being honest it’s probably DH - Warr - BDK - Prot Pala - Guardian
I enjoy guardian especially because I find it’s main benefit is i can focus on content, but, it may sound weird, I get bored of staring at the same bear skin!
Well, then, you seem to have your answer!
Remember, most people who tank have more than one tank class - for different affixes, different bosses, and just because they enjoy the different styles.
So go for it on VDH, and warm up your Warr to be able to join it if and when you feel like it. Heroics got a serious buff but if you have the gear, and know your way around the Normals, you should be fine.
