Easy solution to destroy bot epidemic

-Make resources locked as soon as someone pick it up. No more multi gathering one resource.
-Reduce Material requirement on professional items. No need to require 10-20 ore to make one item
-Gathered item destoyed/disappeared after someone picked it up within 5 seconds on the map

With this you:
-Reduce gathering requirements
-Make materials worth more
-Make materials appear more naturally, no more 100k item in AH anymore
-Professions and gathering worth it, you’re not spending dozens of hours to just get mats for the recepie -unless you spend gold on it in AH of course-

There, fixed the crazy botting that is actually all over the place now. Bots are flying in waves, getting all the materials.
Yesterday evening bots in dozens of waves flying not just in the cave but now on the surface too. This is an epidemic now. Get back to the roots, when the materials worth something and gatherer professions were useful not just when people are botting.

If you want to deal with bots then you shouldnt be only looking at gathering proffesions. Restricting only that probably means normal people give up on it as they cant gather much anymore. As they cant loot the ores anymore but bots likely will go on and ask higher prices due to scarcity.

And theres also bots wich farm raw gold inside dungeons for example.

Or there also are resources wich do not drop from nodes. Like mining dead elementals

What I would like to see is a “captcha” or similar mechanism for each x-th node/herb you gather.

After having solved a few captchas they disappear for some time, so you can harvest freely, and the from time to time you get them again to prove you’re still the “player”, and you didn’t switch to botting.

Failing to solve many flag your account, so bots are investigated and banned faster.

Me never seeing a herb node again sounds terrible, no thanks.

We had this in the past and it wasn’t great, either. Numerous times I’d spot a yellow dot on the map, run or fly to it, just to see it disappear. That was not fun.

Plus it’s never stopped the botting in the past when we could only herb or mine a node once.

All it does is make it so regular players can’t get any resources and no one wants to spend their time doing captcha codes on all nodes.

meanwhile bots likely will just put in some realmhopping scripts and then just hop servers to search for new nodes

That’s the thing - the captcha doesn’t need to be on all nodes - just on the first 2-3 for example, and then only once in a while so that some abusers don’t start to farm herbs manually, and only then switch to botting after having solved a few captchas.

There are countless algorithms to determine when to show a captcha and when not, so it can be integrated in the least obtrusive way possible

That sounds less horrendous :dracthyr_blob_dance_animated:

Contender for worst idea of 2024 right here.

Captchas would just exclude a portion of the playerbase, not everyone can solve them.
Nodes being locked out after tapped isn’t gonna stop the bots, just ensure that only the bots get them.

Its easy to detect a bot, wow anticheat is garbage. If they would want to block bots, they already would do it. Another games private servers could do it years ago.

I know of the accessibility concerns, but at this point it is a “pick your poison” kind of situation: do you want to deprive a part of the playerbase from farming nodes (which would suck, that’s for sure), or make the whole concept of gathering professions irrelevant due to bots and devaluation

I am not sure how it is irrelvant though. I am getting my herbs for my health potions and flasks without trouble (now we have normal flying :tada: ). If i want i can even make some gold with mining.

Personally i’d rather have the AH be locked to the server groups again. Low pop servers did not have as much issues with bots as high pop servers where the mats sell much more. Nowadays when i farm herbs and ores i have to compete with every single bot in world of warcraft. instead of just the local multiboxxer

It’s only devalued if you want to sell it, what about players like me that just farm for their own proffesions?

I think there is little hope of that considering the direction wow is taking removing the realm barrier more and more.

We currently have cross realm AH for commodities and going forward we’re going to have cross realm guilds. Cross realm trading enabled.

It makes sense that this is a better approach to issues with realm populations after they stopped doing connections.

I personally don’t see it as a problem, yes botting in any aspect sucks and every game would be better without it, but as a player, it keeps costs of materials down and makes the aspects of the game I enjoy, easier.

I was sad when they canned easy to do multiboxing because potion supplies had never been cheaper than when the multi boomkin raids were farming them.

Yeah it does suck for the gatherer, but having nodes 1 per player so that we lose 90% of the mats on the AH doesn’t help anybody.

I mean, yeah it does help with finding people to play. Thats for sure, but at the same time its quite a problem for the economy in the game.

I dont really like all of these changes themselves either. For one i think world pvp was better of when we were bound to our server groups and couldnt realm hop.

At the same time tho, players wich do try to make gold. Either to buy stuff ingame or to pay for gametime or store mounts with it now have a much harder time farming stuff legit. Because they can’t simply farm enough to make proper gold with the mats prices. Simply because an army of bot farms it 24/7

Well atleast when nodes become more rare, real gatherers atleast get a nice price for the few things they do find. So they atleast would be able to make some gold again without having to farm 1000 k of each herb just to make a penny

I think if it was easy they’d have done it already. They ban a huge number of bots and for every ban they just come back on a new account.

I do understand the frustrations people feel waiting for ban waves with bot programmes. They feel the bots they report should disappear quickly from the world after being reported. I do appreciate that Blizzard have to investigate but the ban waves catch all the players using that botting programme. I believe this is to catch more people in one go, rather than allowing the programmers to constantly alter it as they are detected.

This blue post is about Wrath Classic but it highlights the issues with the war on bots/RMT.

Who do you think will be faster to the rare nodes, the real player or the bot? Indeed the bot. And he will be the only one who will make gold since it are 1 time use-nodes. At least now we can make some gold ourselves with gathering, or get the stuff we need for our own craftings.
