Is there any reason behind this super annoying grind for the Echoes, considering each of us paid so much for this expansion? Like everything gets hotfixed so quickly and yet this ridiculous drop rate is still a thing?

I got 21, I only did anniversary bosses, 4x m+ and 5 HC EP bosses. Dunno, seems pretty ok to me.

I am up to around 20 or so too. They drop occasionally from all mobs and I am enjoying not worrying about the drop rate and just going about my normal game playing and letting them accumulate normally.
I also like the fact that if players want a Vanilla style grind they can go and do that too.
I have collected a total of 22 and that is from four days of game play just doing questing & world events. I seem to get around five a day and not always from the main “bosses” of the world event either. Certainly some major degree of RNG involved together with diminishing returns on a daily basis I think.
Some have apparently ground through all 40 in a few hours of repetitive slaughter of fast spawning mobs but I can think of a let better ways to spend my time - each to their own.
…or maybe join a group that’s farming them at the Blood Gate? I’ve done this quest in 30-40 minutes, it wasn’t that hard.
Maybe I’ve done that and it still took me 2-3h… impossible for you to be 30-40 min. You sir are a liar! Shame on you!

Same here, but 6 I got on the day of pre purch. And no more since 
I got 3 first day and then 1 after that. Havent played that much though, and mostly m+ where things doesnt drop, but i do some wq’s every day usually (emmissary)…
I kinda don’t like set that much to grind for it so I guess I won’t get it after FC and all quests removed at all.
The first drop of the day (every 24 hours) gives you 3-5 echoes. After that the drop rate is around 1 every 20 to 30 mins if you farm in the right places. So you can either farm it daily until your first drop of that day or farm it hard.
For Horde a popular location is the Blood Gate at the top of Zuldazar. There are usually farm parties up in the group finder, if not you can form your own. I did it in a five man group. We just slaughtered trolls endlessly. After several hours of trollicide you will find you have enough echoes. We found monk statues handy for aggroing lots of mobs at once. Any set up works though.
I have seen a comment from Taliesin (streamer) mentioning a raid group but I have no idea how long he took to do his.
I got it the day after I paid for the heroic edition. The drop rate is fine.
I grind Vol’dun WQ’s every day and with that pace I got 4-6 a day + occasional 1. Now I’m almost done. Good luck!
I got some from raids, some random nagas on Nazjatar gave me 3 or 4 sometimes on only 1 mob. I am currently at 17/40. I’m not farming it, I like getting it slowly as I play, I am patient, if you want it faster, I’d recommend joining a farm group but it’s too unfun for me
