Logically, one star items should be cheapest and 3 star should be most expensive, yet in a lot of cases, two star or three star are the cheapest xD why…
Botters.

Because supply and demand
And the fact, a good crafter eg. most of them now who reached the level are capable to make the best quality products with only R2 materials
As for the R1 materials? They are simply rare. It take a little time to reach a gathering level where you simply stop geting R1 stuff thus the ‘worse’ quality actually rarer than the high quality one
And what is rare is expensive
but if it’s useless then why should it be expensive. it’s not as simple as you think.
it has more to do with listing prices and undercutting - all being independent of each rank so people listing r2 or r3 cheaper than r1 might just be unaware what they are doing lol
That goes for usefull or showoff items, but how it goes for items noone wants or needs since there is better quality for less gold.
Because they are not useless
On the long run for leveling your crafting profession and mostly for the quests you ‘need’ them
I would not waste my R3 or even R2 during leveling knowing the product will be bad quality, rather buy some R1 and accept the temporary ‘loss’ to make profit with the R2 / R3 ones later.
but why would you buy MORE EXPENSIVE RANK 1 rather than CHEAPER RANK 2 OR 3
Because they are not that more exensive
If there is a R3 or R2 for 500 gold and R1 for 700, it is worth more on the long run to buy the R1 too along with the R2/R3, level your profession with the bad quality and craft the product for the market with the good ones
It is like an investment
Not to mention the quests. You don’t want to waste good stuff on quests
THe only way you can solve that is Blizzard setting the price that can’t be changed. Often the finished product is also cheaper than the mats. One of the reasons is undercutting and players not understanding basic economy. If anyone would run a business this way, they’ll be bankrupt in a week.
no lol

Because the gathering also doesn’t work like real life. Higher quality mats aren’t more difficult to gather, even so, after certain skill levels you are even more likely to get them at a higher quality. And since AH prices are - mostly - based on supply and demand, and because of the many high level gatherers the supply of higher quality mats is huge, their value would drop. Apparently it dropped to be around the lower qualities.
rank profesion economy is a scam like construct by blizzard to maximize token sales
No it doesn’t lol. Just buy more of the R2/3 for the same result, but cheaper.
Did you read what you wrote there?
Buying more expensive stuff is more worth than cheaper stuff for same effect??
Why? Because of economics.
Often? It’s almost the norm.
Not to mention nonsense cases like the completely safe rockets, where r2 is like 20g and r3 300g (reasons) while the mats alone are worth more than the two combined.
The reason for that is Multicraft and Ressourcefulness.
Leatherworking for example:
I buy mats for 100 crafts of Feral Hide Drums and when I’m done crafting I have 150 drums for sale.
The economy won’t make sense so long as the token is in the game
There is no logic in this statement. You are not confined to using R1. Therefore if the R2 (or R3) is cheaper, you use that. Demand for R1 materials is elastic…if the perfectly interchangeable alternative is cheaper, you buy that
