I’d like to hear your opinions about our best AoE legendary, Echo of the Great Sundering. My biggest wish for DF is by far, that this effect gets removed!
I’m playing semi-high content, mostly M+. I’m currently at about 3.2k score but can’t dedicate as much time to push further atm. Did some mythic raiding in the past but generally prefer M+.
As such, Echo is my go-to legendary and for me it’s an absolute nightmare.
Using Earth Shock in massive AoE and Earthquake in single target simply doesn’t feel right. On top of that comes our tier set right now. It’s a nice idea, especially in single target. Yet again it’s against our nature in AoE to cast Lava Burst in AoE. It simply delays our DMG even further. Having to build 120 Maelstrom until you get to do some DMG in AoE feels … meh.
Add affixes like necrotic or sanguine, which makes your tank kite even more than they already do, feels like you throw 80% of your potential out of the window. We naturally lose some of our dmg because of Earthquakes design. That’s okay and part of our class. Learning to play around that weakness is important to properly master the class. But sometimes it’s beyond our control. With Echo, you’re being punished twice as hard for that. I’d love to see some effects that play around our mastery or gives us options to use up more Maelstrom to empower it, a bit like how it used to be in Legion. But alternating between both spenders is not truly rewarding nor innovative for me.
Alright … I don’t want to bump my own post unnecessarily but here we go: I case you haven’t seen it yet, the first version of our talents is now in alpha. Including … as i feared … Echo. Feel free to share your thoughts. For now … it looks a bit messy to me in general but I’m eager for opinions.
I personally wish to see earthquake be replaced to be honest. I wish we just used our maelstrom to overcharge our next chain lightning, i really really dislike placing an earthquake and tank just moves the mobs out of it
Well … I mean yeah: putting the AoE into Chain Lightning or making Earthquake based around the target would obviously solve the moving problem, but I’m really fine with Earth Quake as is. I don’t feel as if I was losing incredible amounts of damage. Some tanks tend to kite permanently which can be a bit frustrating but on the other hand Ele damage in AoE was always pretty decent. I also see it as a bit of a skillcap/learning curve to properly place it. Other casters have similar problems (Rain of Fire, Blizzard, Flame Patch etc.). It just gets inceribly annoying if you misplace one or the mobs don’t stay in it with EotgS as a legendary.
