Elemental interrupt (Wind Shear)

Is there a particular reason why elemental shamans interrupt is 30 yard range while the rest of their spells are 40 yard range? Makes no sense to me.

Not sure really, it might be a holdover from its original iteration - it had a 20yd range when max range was 30yds.

I personally think it’s just to normalise the spell between specs, as all 3 Shaman specs maintain the exact same interrupt, with the same range/cd/duration/etc.

Hex also shares the 30yd range, though I think that’s just a rule for some caster CCs, as many have a 30-35yd range, like Poly, Fear and all SPriest ccs.

So it does. Didn’t even notice it until you said it.
Good points though

Utilities like that were at some point considered too strong with 40y range. Because when coupled with the fact that around Wrath Ele Shammy could have ranged interrupt on 5 seconds cooldown and Grounding Totem every 10s, it would made them ultimate anti-caster annoyance, dominating everything that couldn’t kill them without a struggle to get any casts off. It would look somewhat like this:

Ele casts Flame Shock that starts to slowly eat opponent’s HP
Opponent casts something, Wind Sheared by Ele
Ele casts Lava Burst, opponent loses some 20-30% HP (let’s assume about equal gear)
Opponent casts something, gets Grounded by Ele
Ele casts Frost Shock to prevent escape or starts Lightning Bolt casts
Opponent has about 1-2 GCD to cast, then it’s WS again…
Ele casts Chain Lightning, opponent has already lost about 40% HP
…while the Ele keeps Bolting them freely, already going for the kill while the opponent can fight back only with instants & maybe 2-3 GCDs per every 10s…

And this is assuming that Ele Shaman wouldn’t just blow all cooldowns and nuke them to Outland in 10 seconds after first interrupt. They could do that in Wrath, Ele burst was just sick, up there with Arcane Mages. 2-3 GCD (FS-LVB-CL and maybe LB to finish them off) if opponent was in green or PvE gear.

Later interrupts were nerfed hard, dispels were nerfed hard, but those small changes for the sake of long-passed balance remained. Incidentally this ALSO contributes to Ele not being seen in any serious PVP environment, because in addition to turret & survivability issues, Wind Shear has shorter range compared to say 40y Counterspell.

So, what I’m gathering from all this is, that there is no real reason for it and Blizzard doesn’t give a duck?

It’s so in arena you can be punished for stepping forward this is because as we all know melee have no gap closers speed ups or anything.
LOL.

That’s pretty much

post-Cata for you. Totems pruned, spells made 1 spec only (unless you’re Resto, because apparently healers should have real DPS abilities, but DPS should not have real heals…), utilities nerfed into uselessness or removed.

Ele Shaman is kinda like DK, wasn’t really changed since “stand and cast turret” Wrath gameplay, while everyone else and their companion pet got cc, gap closers, burst movement, or monkey-on-crack mobility inbuilt in class like monks & DHs. And Ele had a ton of utilities, but had them taken away or nerfed. So it was relatively shafted.

Absolutely love the gameplay of ele shaman in pve, but after 4 days of doing m+ on it I just got frustrated and hopped back on my mage. Why intentionally gimp urself if you don’t have to

It’s the lowest CD interrupt in the game and is ranged on top of it. Why exactly are you complaining that it is balanced out by having less range than a Counterspell that has a significantly longer CD?
I remember a time when Shocks used to be 20 - 30 yards. Shamans have always been a mid-range class.

shaman dmg wise sad class not much you cen do

I’m sorry, am I not allowed to complain or ask questions?
