Elemental Lariat recepie drop since 10.1 - bug?

Neither me, nor anyone i know, including a community of farmers with a 100+ members camping each storm ahve seen it drop since 10.1

While it is possible somehow everyone there has been super unlucky, it leave me wondering whether it is bugged.

It also begs the question , does it have to be THAT! rare? can’t mobs and local rares also drop it during storms? or pay a hefty Elemental Overflow for it? Like 50k or even 100k?

I mean it is last patch’s recipe, surely they should be a little easier.

I’ve not really camped it, just done a few rares now and then during storms however I have been checking the AH for it and there is never a recipe up. This is kinda silly tbh.

I know, and it is disturbing becuase that is a lot of payign itme diverted to camping out sotrms, and doing so consistently for 3 weeks without realising that it’s been removed off the drop list or something. I haven’t seen it in the AH since the patch dropped. There was one just the day before that carried on into the new patch before been bought after a few relisting of successive higher prices… but that’s been it since.

Off course again it could have come and gone without me noticing, but these things are usually super expensive so sit a few days.

It’s up on Draenor for around 3m

It dropped for a guy in my group few days ago. We were doing Water Elemental Storm in Azure.

I am “farming” this recipe since Storm event started and this is the first time I have seen drop. By farming I mean that I kill one boss daily on my two max level characterssince I am not quite sure how many attempts you can have daily so I decide to not waste more time then I have to and try it 2 times per day (once per character).

Even not having alt army, you have to admit that 2 tries daily for months is still a lot, and the drop rate is terible.

Edit: not sure is it important but one of my characters has jewelcrafting, other one doesn’t.

According to WoWHead it drops for non JCs as well. However its also stated that apparently you share the lootpool for the recipe with everyone hitting the mob so only one will get it should it drop (the shared lootpool info is to be taken with a grain of salt but given we had a similar case with another item i wouldnt be surprised if its true). The droprate is around 1%.

I would think or hope that it would prioritise J/Cs at least, I mean it’s their recipe, if one is present it should go to them. THis is how it is for raid recopies.

I also think perhaps they should increase the drop rate chance based on a persons skill points, gaining more with more skill points you have in the required specialisation. That should also raise the chance it drops for you.

The recipe is BoE. Thats why. You can or could actually make money out of it. Its the same for the Alchemy codex.

Storm elites are not the only source for the recipe. It drops from two other “rares”/elites in Tyrs Hold namely Phenren and The Maiden. So you can go kill those two on a daily basis to increase your chances.

yeh, I’ve heard that. At first i heard that any rare during storm could ddrop it. but then others said only the sotrm lieutenants, but i wonder if it’s just that the drop chance is even smaller on the non-storm elites and it still can, i still kill them , but never seen a drop.

I am not sure. I actually do not understand the thought process behind making any crafting recipes so scarce. The same applies to the Ring-bound Hourglass from the Storm Elements chest. Took me nearly 5 months weekly on 7 alts to finally get it.

I hear the Frost Belt recipe for Black Smithing has the same problem dropping from a dungeon.

Just keep at it I guess until you get it - if you really want it.

The thing with lariat is that it’s not even worth getting anymore anyways. I mean when checking the auction house website one can see that the price usually ranges from 2 million to 4 million gold. The issue however is that lariat itself is no longer as in demand as it was on launch not to mention that we are starting to reach the halfway point of the expansion. So putting so much gold under it to buy it off ah at this stage of the expansion would be dumb because you’d most likely not be able to earn your gold back from crafting them anyways.

So yeah it’s a really dumb situation where the recipe is super scarce and it’s not even worth buying off the ah as it is because you probably ain’t going to be crafting 3-4 million gold worth of lariats anyways.

Not sure if it is “not worth” getting more than its not the BiS for all classes anymore. The Lariet is still very much in demand by healers and tanks. The only change is you need additional gem socketed to reach its full potential and that is very doable - given the easy gearing structure for this patch. You can have 6 - 9 gems easily and gain the buffs. Look at my gear and you will see why I still use it.

However, I agree with you. The cost of buying it off the AH is not worth it and you will need to craft a ton of them to get ROI. Especially as you have so much competition so late in the expansion.

I haven’t seen trial of the elements event active for weeks now. So I gave up trying to obtain that on. Will just sit and wait prices to drop.

As a collector, and someone who plays only two characters, farming these kind of recipes is a nightmare.

Wait, really? I thought it was automatic guarantee in the chest if you got to open it.

Lariat ‘scales’ with season, it’s just not in demand yet because people don’t have enough sockets. Once they do, most people will end up replacing their marginal shadowflame / nerfed healing dart embellishments for sporecloak + lariat
