Good evening all,
I was playing earlier, everything worked fine, but when I logged in just now all my Elvui profiles have reset. I’ve tried updating Elvui, WoWup, restarting my pc, etc. My weakauras or other addons didn’t reset. I have no idea what caused this as my game didn’t crash or anything, I’ve done nothing out of the ordinary.
Anyone has any idea how to fix this? Or shall I have to rebuild every profile?

I’ve had this happen to me as well except I also lost all of my weakauras.
Check if you have any restore points available in your Windows. If you do, restore to that point and your UI should be back, but you might lose some files that you have got/installed since that point. Just back up anything important before you restore.
If you don’t have any restore points, you’re probably going to have to rebuild your UI. Unless someone else here has another idea. I didn’t have any restore points and couldn’t find another way, so I had to rebuild everything.
Since then I’ve been regularly keeping back ups of my Interface and WTF folders. I recommend you do the same.
Also I’d make sure none of your drives are full/have enough space, especially the drive with your OS and the drive with your WoW folder. Mine were nearly full when it happened to me and it happened to a friend of mine in a similar way.
And this is why I occasionally back up my addons.
Thanks for the tip, sadly I have no restore points available in Windows. I’ve learned my lesson and will back-up my Interface and WTF folders. Thanks anyway!
And that is the reason why i do not use EvlUI … it changes so many things so it is hard to see what went wrong.
I’ve lost all my settings completely 3 or 4 times since 9.0.5 (It has never happened before since I started playing on Legion release.) I lose all addon settings, Elvui, WeakAuras, Bartender, Parrot, Quartz etc. My macros and keybinds remain (Blizzard settings)
Lucky I back it all up (and always have) so I just copy it all back across but something is not right. Some suggestions online are that it is linked to WoWup.io which I do use but I cannot confirm that.

The chance of it happening is extremely low and can be entirely mitigated by backing up your settings. This is only the second case including mine that I’m seeing since I started using ElvUI in early Legion. Not to mention this is not an issue exclusive to ElvUI. When I lost my ElvUI profiles, I also lost all of my weakauras and some addons settings have reset. It can happen with any addon that has custom setting as long as something goes wrong with your WTF folder.
For example then friend I talked about in the first response, he “only” lost his weakauras since he hadn’t been using ElvUI at the time, and as you can see it can happen to either one. OP lost only his ElvUI profiles, my friend lost only his weakauras, I lost both and some other settings on top.
To me it’s 110% worth backing up a folder about once a month for the customizability and benefits ElvUI brings.
Yes as others have said keep backups! I have my WTF and interface folders backed up on my desktop, on separate encrypted usb-drives, floppy disks and hand written on paper which are kept in a fire proof safes.
Happened to me couple of weeks ago while switching my external SSD to my laptop, it deleted all my settings. I’ve set up a Windows task to zip all my settings and upload them to OneDrive twice a week, would definitely recommend to anyone.
