Emissaries in Shadowlands

My main issue is - they made it more convinient going from Legion to BFA in terms of not having to pick emissaries up. But they took the convinience away in SL.
And for what reason? Quest log clutter theory was debunked in this thread. And IMO maybe 1 player out of 100 feels RPG immersion when picking up quests in WoW. So, once again, why?! Tinfoil hat theory suggests more time spent playing, but i dont want to live in that world.

That aside - being able to do emissaries in dungeons is a great thing, and honestly, fill the bar emissaries could be the only emissaries, because, well, you can pick and choose your favourite way of doing them. So there is some good. But thinking about some of the changes, one has to stop and ask why?
Also talking about clutter - Why is there expensive junk inside of emissary boxes? Why not plain gold? Again, just why? One could argue, it must have cost more resrouces to do this instad of raw gold. So yeah, lol.

Quite the argument there. Usually I’d agree with you. This is an RPG after all. But this just doesn’t make sense anymore at all.
You are essentially just a lackey, a goon for the covenants. You picked one covenant, and he sends you as an errand boy to the others. Completing the same world quests over and over.

You claim that it is part of the RPG aspect to go pick up your callings instead of like “getting them as a text from your iphone send to you”. But then I have to reason with you here, what part of an RPG is it where you are for:

  1. You are timegated by your own covenant, you are limited by the amount of reputation you can get daily
  2. You complete the same world quests, every week. The same problems arise, every damn week.

Now, how does it make sense that a reputation faction would stop you from getting reputation with them. How does this make sense?
“Go kill 10 of these undead in Maldraxxus, than return to me for your measly 125 rep, come back tomorrow for the same stuff”.

Meanwhile, in true RPG’s, you could just farm reputation by grinding mobs up to, let’s say honored or revered, where you turn in the materials these things drop for extra reputation, or go to a stronger area, where stronger mobs are present to grind further.

RPG wise, World Quests do not make any sense. So do daily quests. These aren’t part of the “RPG”. This is Blizzard just telling you to log in everyday and play the damn game for a small amount of time.

I hate WQs, mate. All it would take to make me like them is talking to an NPC to pick them up. I hate automatic content in a PC game. Things happening automatically should be reserved for mobile games. I’m tired of the forums demanding WoW become a mobile MMO. It’s like… these guys really don’t have phones and don’t know what they’re begging. When WoW Mobile becomes a thing, these same people who almost demand the game play itself, will pretend to be outraged.

It’s not about RPG. It’s about you, the player, having to spend the time and effort to do content. The game exists so you play it - automatic quests, automatic this and that, “qol”, all of that is just garbage.

The problem is once we start giving in to that “quality of life” audience, they won’t stop. You give them the thing they ask, making the game lesser for everybody, and they immediately ask for some other improvement. The end goal being “I don’t play the game, but I get the rewards”. Basically a mobile MMO.

I play mobile MMOs. Black Desert Mobile is better than the PC version of the game. But mobile MMO designs should stick to mobile MMOs. People who don’t like the idea of mobile MMOs should stop begging Blizz to make WoW into one.

I dont really mind having to pickup Callings manually, it takes like 10 seconds. Biggest benefit in SL is that when you have 3 Callings at once, you can turn them all in your Covenant place, instead of having to fly over 3 zones. So thats quite large time save honestly.

Yeh. I moaned about this about a month ago.

It’s such a pain having to go all the way to my Covenant Sanctum in Bastion to the have to fly all the way to Maldraxxus to do the quests, and then fly all the way back to Bastion to had it in. Not only the Sanctums are mostly on the opposite side of the zone.

Travel is incredibly time consuming in this expansion, and it’s not going to get much better when flying arrives.

An emissary in BFA would take 5-10 minutes to complete, even if you needed to go to the other continent to do it. In SL the Calling takes 5-10 minutes travelling to collect the quest, get to the zone (assuming it’s not in your covenant zone) and then travelling back to drop it off.

Why is this being flagged? Are you people actually that badly mannered that you flag things of whatever the opposite of your opinion is? Seriously get a grip of your lives.

I guess you are one of those not smart people who dont have HS at Covenant Sanctum. Because what normal people do is, take calling in few seconds, go to the zone its in, do the calling in 10 minutes, then HS back and turn it in. And while flying can read wow forums and laugh at threads like this.

The travel pads are a massive time saver in Bastion if you have unlocked them. Fly to the nearest flight path (the bottom left one -Aspirant’s Rest) and TP to sanctum saves several minutes. Do the opposite to travel out of the zone.

If you’re not using both your professions, take up engineering. You need level 1 engineering to be able to teleport around the shadowlands with the wormhole generator. Engineering is literally the “quality of life” profession in every expansion.

I actually prefer the interacting with NPCs for this kind of content, my issue with the current system is that it’s not very well tied into the covenants. I pick up them all in my covenant sanctum yet I get rep with other covenants for doing this.
In ye olde days when you went to a faction hub and picked up a bunch of dailies I felt more immersed in the game. I spoke with a Klaxxi and I got Klaxxi type quests (bomb an area etc.) in Dread Wastes, when I spoke with a Guardian of Hyjal I had to travel to Mount Hyjal and get some Hyjal type quests (rescue burning rabbits or whatever).

Cureently it’s fill a bar to 100% because some disembodied voice tells me to. This isn’t emmersive. I could do this type of content in a spreadsheet.

For the RPG / vanilla nostalgia imo. Just like a bunch of SL features. Does not necessarily impact negatively your experience tho so why not.

Not necessarily, a bunch of vanilla reps did follow that format but it feels more like a path of least resistance from the Devs than a design decision.

It’s easier to just throw a 5 rep on kill proc on mobs than to design dozens of quests (not that retail wow bothers with “dozens of quests” either).

Yes and no. World quests would make sense if wow had mobile phones or stuff like that, but in a fantasy world getting yelled out from NPC’s across the world is weird.

That said getting in the world and doing something there for the sake of a faction makes sense in a RPG setting.

Dailies on the other hand definitely make sense in a RPG setting, and are much more relevant than regular quests (“kill X mobs” quests won’t solve the issue and genocide the mobs in question. A daily makes much more sense in that setting imo)

You couldn’t farm all the way to exalted. You had to kill minions in dungeons/open world that dropped resources for you to turn in.

True, but this can be done without world quests/dailies.

Not really, what kind of faction would limit their own cause. Here’s 10 undead you need to kill, just 10, more will not gain you anything. But you can come back tomorrow to kill 10 again.

OR

Just keep killing and helping our cause, when you do it, we don’t care, how many, we don’t care. Just help us and kill/turn in resources they drop as evidence.

this is true. It’s nice that the first FP does drop you off next to one of the travel pad.

I only have it on my Mage, because my Mage can portal around.

Generally, I would prefer to have my HS in Oribos, as it means I can move around the zones alot quicker in normal day to day activities.

But I do try to log out of my toons in my Covenant Sanctum.

I do Maxed out my Profs on all my toon. I don’t actually have Engineering. I really should. Since profs have now lost their value in the expansion.

It took some getting used to, but I’ve adjusted now. Preferred the old system though.

Also who the hell flagged Ancelyns post? Pathetic really… feel free to bugger off, thanks.

Indeed. But then again. The flag system is pretty much a “downvote” anyway. Hopefully the mods restore it. Since there is no cursing or trolling in that reply.

I preferred the previous system of seeing the emissaries on the minimap without having to go and pick up a quest.

I am based in my covenant sanctum but I still have to go and hunt the quest. Blizz even make the sanctum button flash on the minimap when there is a calling you haven’t picked up. It just seems an extra step for no reason.
