Emissaries in Shadowlands

Soo, a whine thread a bit.

Why make us actually pick emisarries instead of them being available like they were in BFA?

This really feels like a degradation of existing system, instead of improvement.

Since its implementation in SL it brought me nothing but pain and tears. Which is an exaggeration but you get me, right?
Many times, you simply forget about it, go into world, complete quest only to realize you didnt pick the effing emissary. Like today, when i had 7 minutes to complete mists of trina quest in ardenweald, which i did, and it felt great, well, not for long, when i found out didnt pick the quest.
It’s not a game breaking thing, sure, but why? WHY? There is absolutely nothing positive about this change. Who at blizzard sat down at the table and said “Yes! This is a great idea, lets implement it!”

It just feels BAD. The game should not feel worse, expansions should expand upon good ideas and make playing smoother, right? Or should it make convinient things unconvinient?

So please, go with BFA model in the future.

I like that it doesn’t clutter my quest log. If I don’t want to do it, I won’t, and it won’t keep popping up whenever I enter the particular zone it is in.

Since my HS is set to my covenant sanctum, picking it up is part of my daily routine: I log in, I pick the calling. At least on chars where I do them. On ones I don’t, I can ignore them without it being annoying.

It is indeed another degradation of the system. Its pretty annoying to have to go to your covenant area to pick them up tbh.

On the other hand, Emissaries barely serves any purpose in SL. They dont even give anima, which is a rather uninspired currency, but atleast its something. A bunch of grey garbage thats all, what thrilling game design.

It makes no sense why they decided to gimp the WQ/Emisarry system so much in SL compared to BFA and especially Legion. Once you are exalted, there is pretty no reason to do them at all.

Another bonehead move by blizzard.

It’s quick gold sometimes, and paragon chests can contain mounts and toys. Not much, indeed, but it’s nice for collectors. It’s also great that you don’t feel pressured to do them - the less things that feel mandatory, the better, because that leaves more time to do content you like.

Did it clutter quest log tho? In BFA it was only pinned on map, right? And now, there is a special tab for callings, so… But yeah, it could be an argument.

True, it aint nothing hard to do, and you can only feel stupid for not doing so. But still, a few times a forget (having 5+ characters) and it only becomes a frustration and a chore.

Dont start with the Legion. Its funny they hyped World Quests 2.0 for SL, but it feels like we had WQ 2.0 back in the Legion. It wasnt perfect, sure, but this feels worse.
The only criticism in Legion was low drop mounts, right? Which they didnt fix anyway. And curse me all you want, I loved the possibility of leggo from the chest on alts.

Both BFA and especially SL now feels like devs are doing too much. Trying to do revolution in systems instead of evolution. Idk…

Nothing is mandatory, its purely subjective. You can also chose to work 20 hours per day, but most people chose not to, despite the extra reward you would get from it. Just like you dont have to do everything in wow that is rewarding.

But the thing is that content that feels “mandatory”, is generally content that is rewarding and/or develops your character.

Having mostly non-“mandatory” content, means having very little rewarding content, which means a quickly dying game that gets boring because of no rewarding things to do. This is kinda a big issue with SL.

So they can report increased /played numbers as data to their investors.

It appeared in the quest log when you were in a zone with an emissary, yes.

I have 13+, and do callings on 2-3. I look at if it’s a calling I wanna do, and if so, I pick it up when I log in first that day. It takes about 30 seconds, and becomes routine. And if I happen to miss it? Nothing really bad happens, either, as callings are completely optional.

My guess is that they changed it since it didn’t really feel connected to anything. You go into a zone, a “quest” pops up and you turn it in somewhere in the main-base of that zone.

But it’s still not really connected to anything, since well you even do stuff in other zones for that zone’s rep.

Ah well, just a change to change it a little. I guess keeping stuff the same for too long causes a bit of wear too.

The biggest problem is the way of moving between zones imo. If that was more convenient it wouldn’t be such a hassle to hop back n forth (esp on alts which don’t have an upgraded Transport Network yet). Atm it’s an alt-tab simulator if you have to travel - such immersive.

No it didnt, the Emisarry progress in BFA and Legion was (and still is) tied to the map, it was never in the quest log.

You are probably thinking of Assaults quests, which would pop up when you were in the zone.

Ah, indeed, I was thinking assaults. No matter, callings are trivial to pick up (or ignore) anyway.

the fact is people are forgetting, emissaries were automatic dailies which you picked up soon as you logged in… It wouldn’t be hard for them to make it the same for callings, you log in, theres what you gotta do, its up to you whether you do them, and then they rinse it out if you didnt complete within the 3 days…

I actually dont see why blizzard didnt attach the old system to callings haha

Im in my covenant hub like twice a week, on wednesday to pick up the weekly souls/anima quest and when i return to hand them in. Also only pick up any calling that is on the main floor (sinfall). I liked the bfa version better tbh.

Because the game exists to be played. Quests exist to be picked. My main gripe with world quests is that you get them automatically. This is not some futuristic MMO where people have iphones and can just call you. This is medieval fantasy. You go to the NPC to pick the quest. It was BFA that was wrong.

Tbh rep is a degradation of the entire system

1 WQ = Assault now, in bfa we atleast got chance of 2k gold & 1500 rep, they are just straight up not worth it in shadowlands

Current designer of world quests are big incompetents and needs to be fired imo
Thus they want to keep that hamsterwheel rolling , so its understandable…

And? pls don’t tell me that you look at your Quest log all the time
and pls don’t tell me that you have 250 Q active in your Quest log
It’s a BAD DESIGN you can’t have automatic system…and then go back to a stone age
you can design wow other way
we were going forward since begining and now SL feels like they are tryin to go back
Classic was bad…tbc was a pretty decent upgrade to a bad game
now TBC was bad too but the WOTLK change it to a good state and fix TBC issues
Cata fixed WOTLK issues mop fixed cata etc etc BFA fixed legion issues
and now we have SL and SL is not even close to fix BFA issues they are creating new ones xD

That grey garbage is worth 1.5-2.5K gold Paragon boxes give upto 5K, do that on several characters daily and you get gold to buy game time and/or mounts etc (working on BMAH mounts currently) . Not everyone thinks it is trash, I certainly don’t but I understand gold isn’t something some people want

The going to collect them is a pita though I agree I suppose it is for ‘immersion purposes’ but why add it now when it wasn’t before, the only conclusion is the continuing desire of Acti-Blizzard to want everything to take longer.

Emissaries in general are better, especially the ‘do stuff in zone’ ones, means you have choice in activities (real gaming choice with is nice)

Well I don’t mind it tbh, you have to go back every so often for anima and soulbinds so getting the quest first isn’t that bad.

On top of that they drop ~1750g, with chances of catch-up gear and soulbinds. Definitely an improvement over the BFA ones imo.

The 8.3 assault had a 50% chance of giving 2k gold so in average 3k gold and 2500 rep per week.

Now the 9.0 callings give either 1750g in trash for the blues and 2k gold for the epic ones. I have no idea what the actual ratio of epic Vs blue is but if we only consider getting blues for a week that’s around 12,k gold and 10k rep.

Rep aside (cuz we already had emissaries in 8.0) that’s a massive improvement.
