I can understand that f2p don’t get the most sympathy among the playerbase. But you also have to know that many f2p players have also a second account with a sub, and that it’s a more challenging way to play than some of the end game content that wow propose with BfA (but that’s the opinion of each player, and we are not here to discuss about everyone choices).
So stop spitting on every f2p player that you see just because you think he doesn’t pay a subscription … this forum is meant to be friendly in the rules, right ?
To come back about this “feature”, as I possess multiple f2p accounts, I can legitimately talk about it :
It started around March 5th with the fact that all the emotes used (both from the side panel list and by being written in chat) lead to the error written in the chat “Starter Edition accounts cannot yell” without any animation being excecuted except for a few ones : /sit /sleep /stand /kneel
I discussed with a GM about that problem, and he told me that he was aware of no recent changes about f2p restrictions, and that it was more likely a bug that we have to report.
The other point which clearly shows that this is a bug and not a feature is that every f2p account is not affected on the same way :
- Some f2p can still use all emotes without problems
- Some f2p can only use emotes in some regions of Azeroth, and not in others (one can use them in Darkmoon Faire, but not on Elwynn Forest)
Moreover, this error also appears while opening the map and not moving, surely because it triggers the /read animation (which is a real annoyance in battlegrounds). And I don’t think that it’s an “intended feature”, but more likely a side result.
All these facts happened on all types of f2p account with no difference between pure-f2p (never payed a sub) and vet-f2p (who had at least once some gametime).
And to clarify a point : f2p players can still use /emote but not predefinded emote like /dance or /point
I hope that all this text will highlight better the different features of this problem.

P.S. : F2P players have many restrictions on communications, but since the creation of the F2P account in 2011, F2P players have always been able to use all types of emotes without restrictions. This might be an intended change (but for what reason ?), but it’s a bad implemented feature, as it doesn’t affect everyone in the same way, and also spam the chat with an irrelevant error (why saying that f2p can’t yell it they just emoted ? Why not clearly say “Starter Edition accounts cannot emote” ?)
