Empty Roads

Actually a really cool name for a song.

As the title suggests, roads are empty. Just add NPC adventurers of various levels running, walking around the world. Maybe engaging in combat with mobs sometimes, riding mounts (definitely make them ride the more rare mounts to make people mad, like invisible and rainbow birb).

You can make them say funny things. Maybe a mage curses as he is forced to make food for his group. Maybe you come across a group of NPCs planning their assault on a camp of mobs, and one of them suddenly yells the famous Leeroy quote and runs in.
A hunter runs by, gasping for air, asking you if you’ve seen Mr. Snuffles, her oh-so-brave fox that ran away from a fight.
Two archeologists are running for their dear life as a group of angy skeletons are chasing after them, “I told you NOT to touch that statuette, Hubert! But nooooo, you just have to touch everything!”
Hubert says, “Less blaming, more running!”

You know? Breathe some life into this otherwise dead world.

Very cool idea.

Roads are dead since fly mounts were presented and it’s killed a big part of atmosphere in the game.
I would prefer much smaller, concentrated locations (designed for walking) and no fly mounts at all. Imagine how that will make a game so much more alive, with all players running around!

But that will not happen.

Not just adventurers, but also patrols from both factions depending on the zones like we have had ages ago in some zones. Or trade caravans with some vendor going along side

You even could turn them into little events like runescape has. Havent played it since i was 13 but i remember one with a sandwich lady

Random “Adventurer” NPCs populating zones would be pretty neat.

They’d definitely be a good idea in no-flight zones, and perhaps the starter level zones. Because like what has been said above, flying around all the time you might not see it. Would be nice to see those adventurer NPCs running around in hub zones like you do when you enter the portal places in SW and Org.

Remove flying mounts. Just delete them from people’s collection with an overnight hot fix , problem solved.

Would be good. I know it’s a completely different genre, but when I play Red Dead Redemption 2 the roads are full of people Not to the point of distraction, but it does help to keep it interesting and feel more real.

It’s a nice idea. It was good in Revendreth when most of the roads had coaches racing round them. I wondered if they’d continue something like that in DF but I guess the focus was on dragonflying for that so the roads were forgotten.

It’s a cool idea for better immersion. I believe in a few years general AI will get good enough to even have simple conversations with said NPCs like with ChatGPT.

Cool idea. This already applies to cities or the world in general with mobs. Just adding npcs that walk up and down roads would be cool. Caravans, carts, groups of people, individuals…

In recent news: Player population now so low, players are asking for Bots to be implemented to bring life back to the world. More at 11.

Jokes aside, I kinda like the idea.

They’ve been doing this actually. You know how the teleporting adventurers are in the main city of both factions. Hope they’ll expand it to the world a bit more than they did so far. But also these npcs can be good quest giver targets too, not necessarily just flavor.

I would love this! Makes the world feel more alive.

Add more fomo inducing incentive to play then?

Its like the bots in hots they gear them out in bought mounts and skins to try make people spend.

Or they team people with a big spender to make then feel insecure.

Only so much value to creating hundreds of npcs with meaningful interactions if majority of players are flying over them in their mounts.

Lag would be epic, that’s why they don’t do it.

If MMORPG, with thousands players online, need more NPCs to be more alive it means that something wrong with the game itself. Don’t you think so?

And the answer is obvious: giant locations + flying mounts.

I like this idea. We have these random NPCs already in portal rooms, major cities and also some of the Legion order halls. I would like to see some random NPC adventurers actually adventuring in the open world. It doesn’t have to be crowded with these, but few here and there occasionally
