engineering is done dead if you don’t make changes asap. I tell you why.
I personally love engineering and having the ability to mog my goggles and the wormholes, but this is literally the only reason to keep this profession nowadays and when we time 10s in m+, it’s just the transmog because we get teleports directly to dungeon zones from an achievement.
The goggles sound like a great addition to spark gear at first, but they’re very niche and mostly not worth crafting since we are locked in 4/5 set bonuses like that.
You removed the cool enchants we had and replaced them with tinker slots which are on crafted items only and are literally useless in 99% of scenarios. The healing one, shares cooldown with potions, and not that we could have had an extra free potion, we get a potion which could backfire instead and not just that, it will remove a portion of healed health right after use so it is always way better to just use cheaper normal potion instead. The PvP tinker which generates the buffs sounds fun at first, but it is unusable as well, it throws the buffs randomly around and you can literally boost your enemy instead if you don’t collect them, seriously what was the intention with this one I don’t see it.
there is no way to make gold with eng not other, than gambling with the mechamogul mount parts from scraps. You have killed gliders with dynamic flying, you’ve killed bomb consumables by making them share CDs with regular potions. With profession tools, it’s dodgy, because we have to know each tool we can make in case someone is looking for it in the trade chat. So there is only the hunter spark gun left which could possibly make a little profit.
this needs to change, this is the first time I’m considering swapping professions. I will suggest some ideas I have which could make it better in my opinion without drastic changes.
make eng the only profession that can craft profession gear, so we can make golds as well somehow in today’s economy where gadgets and bombs are useless.
make tinker slots enchants for looted gear again, and give us more tinkers, for example, I’d not mind having a combat resurrection cables, or the “big red button” for my raid which won’t cost me gold to make, or even better, give nitro boots, rocket, jump etc. a comeback.
It’s been that way for years, to be fair.
The teleports and the goggle transmogs are what keep me from dropping the profession altogether for a 2nd gathering one. Because imo all the crafting professions aren’t fun since the DF changes.
I know, but now we can’t even make a profit from gliders or gunshoes in addition, since they are unusable now.
I’m struggling with gold for my raid consumables, because nothing is worth crafting and the tools are dodgy like I mentioned above. I’d not mind it, if there are some other benefits, like the jump enchant or whatever, or if they at least let us drop mining somehow… I really dunno, hopefully, someone will look into that and fix it.
I agree.
Although I have little to base this on since I’ve basically given up on profs now. I still skin things when I see the option is there although not sure I’ve ever use the leather. I didn’t in DF, so there’s a load of leather somewhere (resource bank, guild bank or somewhere like that).
Perhaps professions needed some reworking in DF but the one they gave it was not a good one.
As for the not making gold by the OP, I’m not sure profs should be about making gold. But maybe I’m just an innocent who thinks they should be about making cool items and easily gearing alts.
I was ok when profs made money early in an expansion but later the rest of us hobbyists could level it up and make some gear for our alts and achievements for reasonably cheap. Now when I leave it to later I look at the system and decide I cba to read a guide of 47 pages and give up.
I maxed out the “Scrapper”-tree, so i can (Randomly, of course) get DF tinkers to use in TWW goggles from scouring through scrap, which is quite necessary, since the TWW-tinkers are all, without exceptions, terrible.
In all honesty, having to maximize multiple trees, “Scrapper” (To get useful tinkers that work with TWW gear), “Goggles” (Need to maximize this one to be able to use upgrade crests!), and if you want decent-ish success rate without a safety switch, “Tinkers” as well, all that just to get any use out of tinkers at all is downright ludicrous.
Engineering has always been in a bad spot, it’s not a money maker but the trade off was it offered quality of life features like jeeves, molle, wormholes, nitro boosts, gliders etc but since over the years all quality of life has been powercrept to an insane degree with portals, auction houses, mailboxes, and transmog vendors around every corner, engineering was kind of left behind, so now it is a net negative profession to run, and has no real quality of life left to it
I bought some older tinkers in the auction, but they are all useless to me, I was excited about the invisibility one because that would give me another restealth which would be huge, but sadly you can’t use it in combat, in the other hand some tinkers require to be used in combat. So they intentionally made it all so as not to impact gameplay anyhow.
can’t make more replies in a row so for those who telling me eng is not gold making profession. I know that very well, I’m not aiming to earn millions, but there should be SOMETHING that could make some gold, so I can earn money for consumables. One progress day cost me 5k+, so I need about 10k per week without being forced to gather minerals for 2 hours. I don’t think it’s that much to ask… Back in the day gunshoes and gliders (which are all old recipes) would do enough, but they are also gone now, there is nothing left.
You get those at Q2, so I believe you cannot guarantee success on them. Also, while DF had some nice tinkers, you can’t scrap those. It’s just the same two over and over.
I got the invisibility-tinker twice from scouring through scrap, i’m currently working on maxing out the “Goggles”-tree though, so i can use a runed crest and craft goggles that aren’t a big downgrade from a rep helmet.
The whole crafted gear/tinker situation in TWW is a huge mess, but the “refurbished” invisibility-tinker might help me bypass mobs in Delves, so i’m trying to make the most of a bad situation, my main has been an engineer since Vanilla (With a lot of rare recipes), so i don’t want to toss that aside.
This is so true. It could have been great, if not for all the timegating, soulbound materials and other artificial barriers designed to stall progress, increase playtime metrics and boost token sales.
