Error 132 on Ubuntu 18.04

I’m on Linux, using wine. WoW does open, but there are no visuals loading: I just see the same on screen as before clicking Play. Then, after a few seconds, I get the error message

This application has encountered a critical error:

ERROR #132 (0x85100084) Fatal exception!

Plus some more info, most of which changes every time. I know that you guys don’t officially support wine, but it would mean a lot to me if you could help me out. I’m somewhat of a noob about using Linux, so I don’t know exactly what info I should give. Could you let me know that?

Also, I did already go the support page Blizzard has on Error 132 (https://eu.battle.net/support/en/article/8288), and done 1 and 3 on the list. I can’t do the rest (I don’t have any addons, I have a SSD, and apparently my drivers (Intel) are already updated).

Hearthstone does work for me (after adding the flag -dxd9), so I know it is specifically WoW that isn’t working.

I would appreciate it if anyone could help me in any way. Thanks!

Good morning Lorala,

Unfortunately, Linux is not supported by us and therefore we can’t really help.

Kind regards

What’s your opinion?

I know this is a bit of a late reply, so maybe you already solved your problem. A few thing you could try to solve this is by doing one or all of the following:

  • checking if your wine version is not 4.9, as this version seemed to have problems with correctly loading the game (4.8 works fine for sure, I haven’t yet had time to test 4.10 after the patch introduced the crash for me)

  • installing vcrun2017 using winetricks vcrun2017.

  • Installing dxvk and adding -d3d11 to the launch parameters of the game, if you launch it from the command line this would be wine /path/to/wow.exe -d3d11. Another possbility is to install d3vk and launching wow in directX 12 mode with -d3d12.

Regarding wine usage, the better place to look for help on various applications is on the WineHQ appdb page for World of Warcraft
