Escape Key Problem

Hello there .

Got a very … err strange problem here. In all of my characters when ever i strike the ESC key i got the message I NEED A TARGET and of course the menu windows comes up or close.

This is what i have done in a try to find a solution before i write this thread.
a) Deleted every addon
b) Reset to default all key bindings in every aspect.
PS
c) Reset to default my Icue (corsair utility) for my keyboard (i have checked the mouse but there was no error in the macros there)

Can someone please suggest something ?
I didn’t know where to post it , i thought it is better fit in Tech.
Sorry if i am mistaken though.

When you reset the keybindings do you check to make Escape is bound to the menu option? It may be worth trying to manually set up the key, and make sure it’s not bound to anything else.

Also once you reset the keybinds you may also need to reset the ingame settings, this could resolve the issue.

I am not sure what you could have rebound though to Escape.

First of all , thank you for such a fast answer.
Trust me i have tried that … didn’t work …

I am thinking as a last resort to delete the WTF folder …
I really don’t know though if it is related to the problem :frowning:

Do you run ELVUI? It is possible you have bound the key to something in ELVUI, you can access the options for this addon with the command /elvui

Also try this command: /run SetBinding(“ESCAPE”,“TOGGLEGAMEMENU”) SaveBindings(GetCurrentBindingSet())

i had that addon , but have deleted it long time now.

You may need to reinstall ELVUI to unbind whatever it has done depending on what the Addon has set.

darn it … i wished to avoid that …

There is no other way eh ? No config file to alter or delete …

aw well … will try that as well.

just had the same issue.
fixed it with the following steps:

  1. /elvui
  2. Go to the action bars tab
  3. enable the micro bar (default wow bar, with the character, questlog, talents etc. icons in it -> because here we have the “gamemenu” button
  4. hit the game menu button
  5. go to keybindings
  6. in th einterface functions > rebind the game menu key to ESC.

escape dont work for me either after a while, did repair and I also got the longest working escape, a while at least. I use esc instead of pressing x and close bags and so on… have also deleted wtf folder, no other folder, forgot what folder that would be? But this happened just a few days ago. Not using addons or /reload do not solve anything. Starting the game again or the less dragstic logg out logg in works for a while at least. Also animation or auto/attack do not work, well mining works but no animation, have 2nd key for mouse 5 button as esc do not work either at same tame as the esc key not working. Also a shame you can mine as moonkin form but not other forms.

edit: Portal to moonglade also make escape work. So deleted interface, wtf, cache, used the wheel to set thing to default and played without any addons, still this escape do not work, but has key binded, do not hit/attack even though I spam auto-attack. As a repair has been used, newest geforce, a complete reinstall is the only thing left. One note is, my w10 profile was corrupted and so repair was temporary and repairing it every time was to useless so did start a new profile that work perfectly. The error I had was I had hide start and activity, but it only work in desktop to unhide, in any other window is refused to unhide unless i press windowkey. Not sure, but maybe a reinstall is the only way for whole windows as well…?

edit2: ok so after all delete, repair, reset defaults and not using addons, game was still not fixed! But … how come it works perfectly with addons now that I made a complete reinstall of game?? Repair is supose to fix it. Like with windows, you repair with command lines and still problem persist(only a reinstall works or install new profile, apperently), wonder what is being fixed or repaired but the essensials corrupt files or cause. I was under the impression that fix includes scanning for checksum, but that mean it should be a perfect fix as checksum should not be able to have even a 0 or 1 wrong :rofl: :stuck_out_tongue_closed_eyes:
