Finally gathered the courage to ask here, since I didn’t have much luck coming to a decision while looking at old threads about this. I have done some digging and I know that Draenor and Kazzak are the most popular Horde dominated realms. I’ve seen all the nice (and not so nice) things people have to say about those two. I’ve met players from Draenor and Kazzak while playing and I can’t say I’m impressed, however I’m trying not to judge a whole server’s population by my bad luck in finding pugs sometimes. I’m still not entirely thrilled about moving there due to Draenor being ex-PvP and Kazzak being not-so-English-oriented (at least from my experience).
I’m currently on Outland as Horde (yep, I know) and I can’t say I’m having a fabulous time so I’m looking for a new, friendly server, more PvE oriented (if that’s a thing nowadays anyways). Apart from the aforementioned, I see that Stormscale and Ragnaros are also somewhat Horde dominated. Do any of you have any input or impressions on those (or other) realms?
I’m just looking to have fun on this game, but fun doesn’t want to have me.
I would recommend whatever you choose, make it a busy one, the AH and pool of players guilds can recruit from is always better if it’s one sided in favour of the faction you want to play on.
Once you choose a realm(s) you can create a character and run into the nearest city, check out the AH, see how busy trade/general are etc. Check out sites like
See how that realm performs generally. If it’s a dead realm it wont have many guilds doing any mythic bosses.
The realm forums are also generally good indicators of level of activity, if it has lots of ads for guilds etc then the place tends to be alive. If it’s just a bunch of locked threads then it tends to be a big quiet.
I am based on Draenor for Horde (and Silvermoon for Alliance), it’s a great busy server, lots of activity, busy AH, however I know you said you weren’t keen. We may end up with queues when the new patch comes out at peak times. Depends how popular it proves to be. They don’t tend to be terribly long. New Expansions we tend to have queues at the start and at peak times initially.
Hey friend, we just started our own lil social hub on Kazzak an odd month ago (started playing again in Nov 19). If you end up on Kazzak, you’re more than welcome to join us – and should this spark curiosity, please do look at my posting history for the ‘Guild Recruitment’ posts I’ve made.
It would depend on what you’re looking for really - as Puny said, if you’re interested in mythic raiding then you’ll really want a bigger realm as smaller realms will have fewer mythic guilds. You may wish to have a look at the guild recruitment forum and see if there are any guilds that meet your requirements - that way, you can find a place with like-minded people who want to do the same content as you and then move to that realm, rather than moving realms and then looking for a home. Bear in mind that with almost everything being cross realm, the realm you’re on only affects mythic raiding, AH prices and available guilds (although there are plenty of cross realm communities if you’d rather).
When you say it like that, I feel like I’ve had the wrong outlook on this all along. It makes sense, though.
I appreciate all the responses and help. I don’t believe Draenor is for me, knowing that it tends to have queues at peak times/new patches.
I was wondering if Kazzak experiences the same or similar queue times, if at all? It seems to be just as active as Draenor, but I will have a look at the guilds as you suggested. Who knows, maybe my new home is right there.
To be fair queues only tend to happen for the first couple of weeks of new expansions and occasionally for big patches, but generally speaking they aren’t an issue.
I’ve played horde on kazzak since 2008, it’s a busy server but I can’t remember any login queues since MoP launch. I think people tend to view kazzak players as elitist aholes though but that’s on them
Once again, I appreciate all the input on the topic.
To be completely honest, I was surprised with myself on my final choice for a new home. I took Ceranity’s advice and found a nice, cozy guild that is everything I wanted in Draenor. So far, I’ve had a surprisingly positive experience - all sort of queues are no longer than 5-10 minutes as DPS which blew my mind. Maybe I was just very lucky and got into groups fast, but I’m enjoying it!
