EU preparing LAWs to fight against shady gaming industry tactics

And more details can be found on the internet.

Key factors:

  • No more FOMO, like a 3 day early access advantage for new expansions.
  • 100% guaranteed refund option for up to two years for buying things with in game currency.
  • No more premium currencies.
  • No more unfair “social contracts” that includes only two options: agree with shady conract or QUIT.
  • No more targeted ads or personalized purchases.
  • And more…

Finally, something is being done about this! Now, they also need to pass laws addressing rigged pattern patents, unfair practices, monitored systems and extremely controlled censorship.

I don’t get how the social contract is “unfair”.

Don’t act like a monkey or get kicked. That’s should be the bare minimum

I’d rather they delete lootboxes from games

It’s more than that. It’s about “You can agree to play but we will install an anti-cheat program that may or may not send a full tree scan of every hard drive as well as full detailed logs of every app installed on your pc every time you log on. Oh, it’s only to ensure that the game can run smooth and to prevent cheating, we definitely won’t use that to form a profile on your preferences and bombard you with hyperpersonalized advertising. Also, we we just need those for anonymous statistics, we don’t collect personalized data, only your IP, the serial number of every hardware piece and full logs from your Windows Event Viewer. We will also install a keylogger because we want to ensure you don’t type something offensive before pressing Enter, but you must let it run all the time your PC is on, if you disable it we will consider this a breach of the contract and permaban you.”

Cool so after reading it, nothing related to WoW.

Good for players who play the games this does affect though.

Buddy is everything ok with you?

You sound like they guys that think pigeons are surveillance.

Plus don’t try to scare me with data gathering for personalised adds.
First off all I want adds that fit me and what I want and second the only person’s that are allowed to talk about that are those that don’t use Google or have any app for any store or any social media at all

Oh, good! I hope it goes through successfully. I’m a big collector in games that I enjoy playing and it’s disheartening when I have to miss out on large swathes of items because they’re locked behind excessive levels of RNG and temporarily available grinds.

I despise battle passes and loot boxes for that reason. Sure, they’re ‘optional’ but there’s a lot of predatory business tactics tied to them.

oooooo now thats some gooooood news.

IS THIS REAL?

that Social contract is to suffocate players and stop letting them to be honest and say their real opinion ,

i like the no more fomo case for 3 days early access.

those people that trying to destroy people here with high Censorship and abusing bunch of kids here (so the kids kill and destroy anyone that say anythiing against blizzard)

this company is pure evil.
and those kids like this undead warrior (with shadowlands helm tmog) that keeps coming here should be asked
if your not getting paid by blizzard why are you trying to defend EVERY SINGLE THING ABOUT BLIZZARD EVEN IF ITS WRONG.
and if your getting paid. then how much per month.

I may be mistaken, but while reading through your links I did not get the impression Early Access would necessarily be off the table, or Social Contracts. With the latter I could imagine people should be able to read it before purchase instead of after according to the intended tweaks, but that’s it pretty much. WoW’s ToS isn’t hiding nefarious intent on page 27, I think that is more the concern they’re addressing.

All in all I think these are great changes, I hope they can implement them. I don’t think much will change in WoW tho, but I may be overlooking obvious stuff.

You can say whatever you want whenever you want. You are free to do so.
You are not free from consequences.

Good changes, not sure how they relate to wow though.
If I recall correctly your grasp on these things is tenuous at best but you’ve hidden your post history so its hard to verify.

I think your interpretation on a lot of the bullet points is bad at best, laughable at worst. In no world is the social contract a bad thing. Can’t wait for you to ragebait yourself into a tizzy though.

I love how people that don’t share my views equals to must be a kid in your world.
It’s funny cause that’s how kids think and argue.

And ofcourse you are one to hate the contract that says you are not allowed to act like the last man and curse people out.
Just for you information. Everything that is forbidden by the contract was already forbidden before the contract.

And ofcourse if I like the game and don’t hate on blizz I am paid. It’s ridiculous. If blizz does so many things wrong in your eyes why are you still here?

Some people are just whales completely consumed by madness. Maybe we just want to buy everything that comes on the store. Of our own will.

I am immune to FOMO. Everything I buy I buy because I wanted to buy it.

Also I do not want to be rude so I don’t mind the social contact. I already wasn’t being rude.

You went against the hivemind eh? I also do it for sport as well. Can be fun times
Anyone who likes WoW or is not on-board the hatewagon, must be a white knight, shill, paid by Blizzard,… what else? Kid? Stuped? Did I miss something guys?

I think I have seen it all now.

One of those guys completely lost it and called me a loser and a rat for not agreeing with him and answering to everything he wrote to me and I was to fast while answering ^^

The worst is when people act like that is an insult. I won’t sthu about this game IRL and I wear Alliance merch in public.

I hate branded clothing but I will always pay to advertise the Alliance and the Miami Dolphins.

I’m better than any paid shill.

Thats not fomo (unless you mean missing out the “launch experience”). Also this practice at least for TWW spared us the dreaded queues.

Unless you use it. Which you will.

From what I can read they will not vanish. They will just be restricted and function similar to what Steam or even Blizzard are doing with their respective B-Net and Steam Wallet currencies.

The social contract is already part of the ToS. It serves as a reminder in this game more than anything. So even if you could just dismiss it and login you will still be bound to it as you agreed to it during the ToS agreement you made with Blizzard when creating your account or resubbed.

Thats probably going to get altered given the EU also wants to dismantle some of the stuff to become attractive to companies and I wouldnt be surprised if this will be part of that. That aside their targeted ads and personalized purchases were trash in the majority of the cases anyway and they can still spam me with ads anyway.

that’s the same shiiz.

do i have to give my reason for playing the game and saying my opinion to a kid that god knows where he live, on a website?

NO.
i just wanted to let you know where you are standing atm.
