Probably the single best thing FFXIV has over WoW. Is there any chance we would ever see this in (Classic) WoW?
This would be so cool especially in classic, where things aren’t usually shared, no endless alt rerolling, no collectors ocd because you need to re-collect everything your main has on 10 alts, can fully concentrate and immerse with one main character. Would add a ton of replayability as well, as most people end up raid-logging on their one toon for the reasons mentioned. No need finding strange special letter names, because you’re trying to create your 7th character on a full server.
Ofc there would have to be limitations, like only being allowed to switch in capital cities, only classes that your race allows for and so on.
Problems I could see is, that it would add a grindy nature which blizzard seems to avoid like the plague, once you used up your quests the only way to level alt-classes would be through mob or dungeon grinding.
I play a lot of MMORPG games and WoW, FF14(XIV) is two of them. I like how they do it with FF14 with one character can change jobs by one click. but you could do that in FF11 as well if i don’t remember it right. But it was ages i played FF11 on my old PS2.
To implement the job system from FFXIV into WoW would be a total disaster. It would break many expansions as they are tied to specific class quests - how would it cope if you can change that class when you wished?
I don’t think this will ever come to classic mostly because it is specifically not classic.
It would sooner come to retail if anything and I highly doubt it will ever come to retail.
What makes you think it wouldn’t break?
It’s built on a game where that job system is present, ofcourse it would work with that job system it was designed for.
Naive to assume that that means it would also not break anything in WoW or any other game that specifically does not have that job system
Not sure I like this, while FF14 has it’s system, imho this totally breaks immersion, a person who spends their entire lives learning to be warrior, will not instantly decide to put the sword down and be a mage because funzies.
If there was a route to change class in wow, it’d need to involve effectively levelling again to master this new class, so you might as well just leave it as it is, as this system exists, called alts.
I don’t see the value in this. I like having alts of different races and I like the idea of an alt character being it’s own separate character. Also not all race/class combos fit but this is subjective ofc.
This game didnt break in cataclysm, blizz did a lot of changes then both on the maps and in the quests, not to mention phasing (or however its spelled) where u can while logged on change the layout of the game. blizz may be alot of things in a negative sence but i for one doubt they are so stupid they will not to prepare for rivalry with its opponents in any possible regard.
Even though i advocate for one character choice even in WoW, im sad to say that it looks more like blizz is building on the accountbound strategy. And its more likely that blizz will include more to that in the future.
I wouldn’t mind if it was an option, for people who want it. As long as I wasn’t forced to perform the impossible mental gymnastics to imagine the same character as a druid and a demon hunter, or a priest and a warlock, and so on.
Personally, I’d hate it. There are multiple reasons why I don’t play FFXIV and the lack of unique character identity is one of them.
