Title. Everytime a new WoW update comes I have to either reinstall the whole game or scan and repair 5 times… play button is stuck “launching” after patching.
Why does this happen?
It’s never happened to me,
Drivers up to date?,
Pc spec?
All drivers up to date.
PC is intel i5 12600k, RTX 3060ti, 32GB RAM, 2 TB SSD…
If you have to do that after every update, it sounds like it could be a storage issue.
Try installing WoW on a different Hard Drive & see if that helps.
Or do a full chkdsk (not the one from inside Windows, the one during boot time) to ensure that there are no files on bad sectors.
Sounds like a drive either slowly reaching the end of it´s life and /or being so overfilled that it has no alternative but to write to defective sectors to accomodate all the data, which then in turn causes problems reading those files.
Definitely run a chkdsk during your next boot as Exiasee recommended.
That happens to me when i try to launch it too soon after starting the computer or after an update. Give it a couple of minutes and dont make the same mistake as me of thinking thr game is actually not launching so you keep clicking on launch, becsuse it just makes it worse and take more and more time
And worst case you´ll wind up opening multiple instances of the client… I thought my password was compromised a few weeks ago because every time tabbed out to watch a YT video and I logged onto a different char i got the “this account has logged in in another sitting” message, when in reality what happened was that I just logged in to a differnt instance of the client each time but tabbed back into a different one ![]()
So after trying EVERYTHING.
It’s not the drive. It’s WoW. I did all the checks, deleted WTF, cache and Inteface. Nothing worked.
Someone suggested I delete WoW. exe and do scan and repair on the game. That worked. So it seems something gets twisted there. I got a 64 mb update and its fine now.
