When I geared it during the pre-expansion event, it was a blast to play. Cool during PVP and Dungeons. When the expansions hit, it was also great in the initial zones.
But it didn’t last for long. As soon as I hit level 67-68 and got mostly green gear, it feels like a cloth wearer… Mobs hit hard, I die fast.
But my biggest issue is with the spells - a lot of cool abilities, which is why I started playing Evoker. But quite a lot of them have long cooldowns. Certain spells are mouse-driven, like the deep breath… and it’s quite sensitive to terrain. There shouldn’t be a single stone alongside the pathway, or it refuses to cast…
Seriously, the class could be made better. It’s supposed to be a hero class, after all, like the death knight. But it doesn’t feel like a hero class.
Listen to the cow-moose thingy, he is right!
67-70 is a struggle for everyone (well I guess for BM Hunters and Warlocks not that much, but still)
Personally? Took the safe route… and to be honest, stayed on it ever since
Verdant Embrace, Renewing Blaze, Obsidian Scales and Obsidian Bulwark, Emerald Blossom + Inner Radience with a Cauterezing Flame here and there (and a little Expunge) with an emergency Living Flame ( Inner Radience again and Engulfing Blaze if you have a point to spare) on self (with these, some Scarlet Adaptation thrown in to the mix) are keeping me alive quite nicely to be honest as a Destructor, be it open word 3+ mobs, a rare or in dungeons (never hurt to be self-sufficient) - since I’m not the best when it comes to kite, a bit “tanky” build is more fitting for me
The tail swipe or wing blast are hard to master, their CD is quite long, so you have to be carefull when to use it, but like hoover, they are part of our arsenal, like that roar+landslide
Evoker is squishy? Sort of… kind of… in a dungeon especially if your Tank is not on his toes; with the racial and the burst you could quickly find yourself under a mount of mobs after stealing aggro so as an Evoker you have to have situational awareness 110% when and what to use or you are toast!
Open world is a bit similar; it is easy to over-pull and after a bit to large deep breath or not well aimed fire breath suddenly dozen of mobs will try to murder you
So every bit of self heal and mitigation/kite will help
Be carefull with water based attacks! For some reason - or maybe just me, don’t know - but noticed the water based mobs/attack in Dragonflight are hit like a truck; other types aren’t joyride either, but those? Real pain
Will dps evokers be any good at level 70 once we get pvp gear?
I am honestly worried that we die so fast in pvp while we are a 25 yd caster, it feels like we are lacking things like a permanent shroud that reduces cc and make us dodge attacks…
That’s likely because your spells diminish because of your secondaries becoming worthless. You need more for conversions and barely increase what you have from 60. I’m just slowly beginning to get upgrades at 63 on my own drake.
You deal less dmg, meaning enemies catch up to you, meaning you begin to take a ton of dmg… been there myself, not fun
This is true on the other hand. Until I did my mythics I hit like a wet noodle.
Now with some gear it’s much better
These help a lot for me as well, mainly in AoE (but at least I do an easy rotation there)
I honestly cannot relate; I’ve been playing Evoker since the expac dropped and literally felt the game was ez mode. Start every fight with fire breath use shattered star then one pip of eternity surge, follow it with either disintegrate or pyre (depending on it being a group or single mob) from their use all your essense, most things are dead by then if not hover and living flame kite, use verdant embrace and eternal blossom. I pretty much never have to pop the cooldowns for anything and I hit 70 in zone 2
I lvl’d as affliction but towards 70 the damage was beginning to start lacking in oompf so I switched to Demo and started destroying everything again, my bf was stunned when I was pulling 40k dps in the dungeons x,x
I only BG on mine but we are made of papers (even at 410 ilvl). You need to aggressivaly spec into the 4% mag damage reduction, both insta heal and the heal back Cd as well as 2nd charge obsidian scales.
My experience is 1m Deep Breath that stuns and Hover are MVP. Always kite basically and spec blue. Red is a trap unless you play arena with a pocket healer. Fire Breath is a let down. Too much set up for too little (on geared people).
What kills me is the 25m range while missing a dispertion CD or something. But i am sure they will boost the survivability somehow. Damage is fine but not crazy for being that glass canon.
So far i have 2 lvl 70 (ilvlr410 in pvp) , my Evoker and my Guardian Druid. One is a one man army finished top 3 dps / heal and mostly unkillable rolling my head on the keyboard wiping anything meleeing me every 1min, the other on is pretty techy and get deleted quickly if not played perfectly.
Guess who is who
The evoker makes you a better player though.
Evoker has the problem that it is very low range and while you expect that because they gave to be closer they would have better defenses they are also one of the most vulnerable classes out there.
And their damage is also not that spectacular to compensate.
