So this morning, I did FoS HC on my alts as usual. I queued into this tank who greeted us by saying “x player is my alt, no kick”. So it’s rather implicit he’d leave if we votekicked his alt. And he obviously knew we weren’t going to risk that, since it was 6am and we would most likely have to wait longer for a new tank than just keep going. So it ended up with us boosting his alt.
What could we realistically have done here, except for unwillingly boost his alt for free? Leave the group would just make us get deserter for 30 minutes, kicking his alt would make us wait longer for a new tank. Doing the morally right thing would just be net negative for the entire group. So this seems to me like the perfect scheme to have your alt boosted for free.
I have 2 accounts and level my characters in duo, but usually I am doing dungeon runs separately for each character of my “crew” in WotLK instances, since mechanics can screw you big for jumping on 2 windows. In Classic and TBC dungeons I can pretty much double melee, double range dps or healer+ranged dps without loosing too much of effeciency, since I am in full heirlooms.
If that guy just forced you to boost his AFK alt in 5ppl instance you should had voted to kick, but not his alt but him himself. Would hurt his huge ego.
I had a similar experience but on retail the other day. This was in a low level dungeon run and the pilot account was a dps with a mage on follow. The follower did literally zero damage, not even a single cast. Main dude said the same ‘mage is my alt, pls don’t kick’. I didn’t initiate but ofc 10 sec after a kick window popped up and I admit I clicked yes and he was kicked. Pilot account started raging and left the group. 5 sec leter we got 2 new dps and we cleared the dungeon.
If he had asked at the start it would have been fine imo.
Multi accounting in automatched pve content and instanced pvp in general should be against tos. I have no idea, why this should be allowed under any circumstance, since it is never helpful for the group, not fitting into an rpg and leads to abusive behavior. The only reason I can imagine, why its not against tos yet, is few more sub numbers and Blizzard making more money from that or them simply being unwilling to check potential reports.
It depends on the multibox software in the past. There have been entire setups that they can run full dungeons by themselves entirely or partial with other players legitimately or participate in PVP content as a stack (e.g. druid stacks comes to mind and so on)
That is more dependent on the player rather than blaming on multiboxing in general.
This reasoning isn’t logical, they already banned multibox assistance after community feedback because players were under the impression that it was akin to botting. Now the MB community is significantly reduced, but botting continues.
Which if they followed your “making more money” they would’ve not put a ban on multibox assistance. After the ban, the act of multiboxing itself is not against the rules; only the software (duplication of keys etc) and hardware.
If the player is holding the group hostage you may report them for it. They’ll take it from there.
Sure it was possible once. But why is this relevant today, when the necessary 3rd party software is against tos for almost 3 years?
There might be players willing to quietly leave if the group has a problem with multiboxers. However, granting one player the option to have multiple rolls on the same item or multiple votes to kick someone from the group are inherently unintended.
Piloting multple character in battlegrounds leads to neglected attention and overall character activity. Having those half-attending players in your team can be a significant handycap. Why do the multiboxers do this? Because its more fun? No. Most of them do this because its more efficient for them to farm currency and items, while its less efficient for the rest of the group. Even multi account users would have more fun if it was against tos. If they got overall the amount of rewards like everyone else, most would not multibox at all in these environments.
No normal player is happy to see multiboxers in their group ever. Multiboxing in dungeons/battlegrounds borderline griefing due to ineffectiveness and shift in roll/voting power. Less individual players also equals less social interaction.
The game experience would be better, if multi accounting in random matched groups would be against tos.
I can not come up with any more plausible reason than making money. Of course it appears Blizzard would make less money by banning 3rd party multibox software. However, there arent that many compared to players being upset bout multiboxing and potentially quitting. Blizzard did this move to please its playerbase and to increase their income by doing so. If it wasnt worth it, Blizzard would not have done it. It is a profit oriented company.
On another note, multiboxers using software are much more rare compared to players using multiple accounts. Account limited level boosts were also caculated to increase “multi subscription” players. Giving additional advantages to these players, like farming honor while being partly attentitive, is a way to keep them motivated to keep paying for multiple accounts.
All things considered, there is no positive thing about muliboxing in randomly matched environments besides increased efficiency for the one using it. What else could be the reason not restricting multiboxing besides money or lack of interest?
This is something I didn’t even think of, and is true. That alone should be something not accepted and considered some kind of cheating/abuse. Keeping a dungeon group hostage and forcing them to boost you aside.
If the tank is really well geared, and he does competitive dps, i dont see the problem in this.
I sometimes see 6.2 tanks in some random heroics, and they are basically boosting us. If he wants to bring an alt on a different account, i dont think its beneficial to either of you (tank and the rest of the group) to kick him. He pretty much does more for the group than the majority of the dps.
The tank barely takes dmg, more chill for the healer, and he can occasionally top dmg.
Ofc, this is not the same if the tank and his alt is 3k gs.
It’s the principle imo. He’s basically getting one more vote to kick, one more person to potentially roll for his alt.
Not to mention he from the way I read the op he’s not asking, he’s telling. And he knows he can get away with it because he’s tank? Yeah got out with that attitude. If I was in that group (as a healer most likely) I’d either votekick him purely out of principle or just leave myself.
It’s interesting how a diminishing population of dungeon runners leads to this sort of behavior. You’ve got tanks bringing in alts to boost, you’ve got tanks selling ‘tank services’ (which sure is one hilarious way to phrase ‘just playing the game’), you’ve got tanks reserving all unwanted loot for their precious time.
Admittedly, it’s a crooked minority only appearing vocal because fewer people have to do their daily dungeons, but it’s still a hell of an annoyance I wish we had better ways to curb.
Yeah, i guess you have sort of a point. I still stand by it if the tank is geared though.
Isnt this then a “community made problem”? So many paladins/warriors/dk’s/druids who wanna do dps instead of tank. Which is fine, but then you get this kinda attitude from those few who actually tank? And tanking isnt hard, takes maybe a few dungeons to get the hang of it, but then its cake.
I am not defending his attitude, but there is an extremely easy fix out of this.
