Explain Ashran

I don’t understand this Ashran. Most of the time I leave it feeling pretty bad.

It comes in two modes; ‘already lost’ (or ‘horde immediately in your face’) and ‘not started yet’ (or ‘horde will soon be in your face’).

Ashran seems to ALWAYS go like this:

  • Horde pushes us to our base (if hasn’t already)
  • Horde wins
  • Horde pushes us to our base
  • Horde wins

BG ends in defeat.

I haven’t played an Ashran that hasn’t been some variation of this.

Am I missing something? Is it supposed to be a ‘horde pushes ally to base and wins’-BG or do other things sometimes happen and I am just unlucky to never see anything else but this?

Also, why do people question if I join a Bg as a tank? Isn’t it OBVIOUS?

Anyway, here are few reasons that I would’ve thought of from the top of my head even if I had never played a tank:

  • Tanks are more durable, so they last longer, so it’s more likely people get to flag in time after inc call, before horde kills the tank - so, ideal for flag protecting

  • Tanks are faster (or at least USED to be), so they can escape being ganked to fight another day (at least ideally, not so much in practice). So it makes sense to use a tank for flag carrying and if you don’t want to just die, die, die, die and die like AVGN in the Silver Surfer game.

  • Tanks have different CC, which can be more handy sometimes (but maybe not in reality)

  • Tanks can lure in lots of enemy damage, so our healer is spared, and DPS can focus on killing enemy healers, so everyone wins (although the tank dies)

  • Tanks can lure enemy to chase them, helping and saving other players’ lives

  • And so on

There was this huge, toxic verbal ‘battle’ in the BG chat, although all I talked about was reality, and all I said was truth. I made valid points, and the counter-argument was… you guessed it - ‘ur dumb’.

Then another tank, whom no one ever talked back to (I guess I am a toxic player-magnet for some reason that I don’t know), that did a lot of damage, but no one questioned that tank DH’s ‘tankness’, only mine.

I always do smallest damage and DPS, I don’t think tank DHs are capable of lots of damage. This other tank DH was probably either a hacker or had lots of some kind of PvE gear (it had like 1800K HP, so yeah… not normal), and bragged egotistically about its damage, but never of course shared the ‘secret’ (whatever it was).

I still wonder why BG chats are so toxic. I don’t curse, I don’t call people names, I don’t hate, I don’t say anything bad, and yet people insult me, curse at me, tell I am either ‘dumb’ or ‘sick troll’, or ‘kys’, or… well, you get the idea. So many insults and curses, although I don’t ever insult anyone.

I don’t get it… the usual explanation is 'because anonymity allows people to be ‘dkks’, but if I don’t have to be a jerk, no one has to be. People just choose to, and I don’t get the reason. Do they get satisfaction out of it? Are they just that evil? Is their mind warped?

I can’t fathom a regular human being that I might see on the street, ever doing something that especially if they don’t have to . Why be a jerk, if you can be friendly, kind or a good human being?

I can’t understand this game, I can’t understand Ashran, I can’t understand why we can’t win any BGs even after playing from midnight to morning, and I can’t understand people - why is toxicity rampant, why does horde dominate BGs, world PvP and goldshire, why doesn’t anything make sense (especially lowbies beating up highbies in duels - 117 shouldn’t be able to even dent 120, no matter how ‘fire mage’ it is), and why is this game so painful in all possible levels?

In Ashran all you see is greater pyro keeps flying from both sides, its a battleground designed for fire mages.

So who has more fire mages, tend to win. Last ashran for me had 4 mages top kills.
