I’ve played for a week so I didn’t discover much. Played a bit in open world and finished Dragonflight.
What I’m extremely confused is WHY am I stuck with Dragonflight dungeons only? Normal and Heroic. Why can’t I choose among ALL existing dungeons?
What do I miss?
From level 10-69 you are (or at least can be, and usually are) in what is called Chromie Time.
When in Chromie Time, you can talk to Chromie to be sent to any expansion, and all its creatures and dungeons will scale to your level. So if you are level 48, you will see all enemies as level 48, whether you are in Wrath expansion or Dragonflight expansion.
And the dungeons you can choose to run in the Dungeon Finder will be the dungeons of the expansion you asked for.
Once you hit 70, though, you no longer qualify for Chromie Time, and nothing below Dragonflight scales to you anymore. Dragonflight scales to you only because its natural level is 60-70.
So if you did enter a Legion dungeon, you would be a level 70 completely destroying level 50s.
Now you are at level 70, apart from hanging around in Dragonflight, your options are:
- Move on to The War Within and level 80, either by buying it in the Shop directly, or by pre-purchasing the next expansion, Midnight, which includes it
- Hang around at 70, and use your mightiness to solo older dungeons and raids, collect transmog, mounts, pets,.achievements, gold
- Create new characters of differemt races and classes, that we call “alts”. Level through and see the game again from a different perspective. We all have lots of alts!
If you have more questions about this, please ask!
From your other post, explaining Zidormi:
Zidormi and Chromie have different functions.
For characters level 10-69, Chromie can control what expansion you are sent to, which includes what dungeons are available in the Dungeon Finder, and move you in and out of Chromie Time, which controls how the world scales to your level.
A few areas of the map, a few zones, have two different versions - before and after something happened. For example, there is
- Blasted Lands BEFORE the Red Portal opened (before Warlords of Draenoe) when Blasted Lands had a Black Portal which led to Ouland,
- Blasted Lands AFTER the Red Portal opened, in Warlords of Draenor, when the Red Portal leads to Draenor
Zidormi exists to allow any character, of any level high enough, to switch between these two versions of a zone, but it doesn’t affect your scaling or expansion at all.
So there is no full list of dungeons that can I look for while matching? If so, why?
Let’s say within 1 hour I want to run dungeons from different expansions. Clearly to diversify content I see. How do I do that?
Because the devs didn’t code it in. Nothing more to say about it than that.
If you’re in Chromie Time, you go back to Chromie and ask for a change of expansion.
If you’re out of Chromie Time, you don’t. It’s not available.
Characters in Chromie Time can choose which expansion dungeons they want,
Characters who have graduated from Chromie Time can’t.
I don’t get. How do I go to all dungeons then? Am I supposed to travel across the whole world to get physically to dungeon’s entrance?
I came from TESO. Where I can easily open the tab and choose what dungeons I want to go right now. So I’m extremely confused.
If you want to enter a pre-Dragonflight dungeon or raid at 70, you do indeed travel to its location in the world, and walk in.
There you will be one-shotting almost everything, but you can collect mounts, pets, gold, transmog.
Here’s a start, if you are interested, to get a nice new mount:
- Go from the Portal Room in Orgrimmar through the portal to Dalaran (Crystalsong Forest, Northrend)
- Fly almost directly South to the North entrance to Wyrmrest Temple in Dragonblight.
- Approach the lower room through the crevasse in the snow
- At the room, right-click your portrait, and choose Raid Difficulty/25-man.
- Walk straight through the room to the portal at the back.
- You are in a chamber with a HUGE dragon straight ahead and lots of monsters all around. This is the Obsidian Sanctum.
- Do NOT go around the room. Walk across the lava straight up to Sartharion the boss dragon and kill him. You need to kill Sartharion FIRST to get the achievement and the mount.
- The whole room will go nuts, but as a mighty 70, they won’t even scuff your armour! Kill 'em. Kill 'em all!

- Now loot everything. Most of it will be junk, vendor trash, but you might get a bag upgrade. Loot the chest at the base of the pile of corpses.
- If you have followed the instuctions, you will also have Reins of the Twilight Drake
- When you click the item in your bags, you will learn the Twilight Drake as a new mount. It’s a nice one.

Notes:
- The Twilight Drake is only available from 25-player mode, not 10-player. 10-player gives the Black Drake, which is also nice, but not quite as sleek
- You can only get the mount once per week per character, as the raid is weekly locked
- If you want both the Twilight Drake (25-man) and Black Drake (10-man), you need to run each difficulty on separate lockouts or use multiple characters
Thanks for mount tip.
Small notice. Dungeons are coop content for me, I don’t go solo. And I go to Heroic mode.
Question: are all Vanilla and expansions’ dungeons matching player’s level?
I finished Dragonflight so all I see in Dungeon Finder is this expansion’s content. Which means, as we established, that if I want to go to Vanilla or other expansions’ dungeons I have to travel across the whole world to be. And be near entrance physically. Which would be very painful and time demanding.
Question: After so many years, no one questioned this system?
Let me make something clear, that may not be at all clear to a new player, and explains a lot.
THE DEVS WANT YOU AT LEVEL 80.
I mean, they really, really, really want you to
- Buy the current expansion and
- Be in the queues and groups with the 90%+ of players who are at level 80
I won’t say that this is their Prime Directive, but it’s close.
Obviously, they want poeple to buy their current offering, but they also have a deep and sincere belief that the game is better when everybody is playing together, on the same level, on the same content, on the current World Quests, in the same Dungeons and Raids, in the same Battlegrounds and Arenas.
And nearly all players agree with them
So, while you are welcome to .hang around at 70 as much as you like, they are not tailoring the game to that lifestyle. Some people, especially new people, can enjoy that for months, collecting lots of things from older expansions.
They want you to join the Vast Majority in getting into TWW and levelling to 80 amd gearing up and doing M+ and Delves and Raids.
If you want to do earlier expansions in a group, you can make more characters, and go through the game with those.
So they don’t add a bunch of scaling and options for Level 70s.
If it’s really the case then it is very toxic. As a new player, I want to discover and gradually move forward. Not jump into latest content and neglect everything that is behind. Because obviously, without proper pve group finder that covers ALL content available, I’m not gonna fly around whole world to queue for dungeons and raids (if it’s applied to it too).
You don’t fly around to queue. You fly around to walk in.
The queues are just for the lower, easiest tier of content. Fast-food principle.
For everything serious, you go to where it is in the world and walk in.
When you get to 80, to the serious dungeons and raids, to M+ dungeons and Normal, Heroic, Mythic raids, or to Delves, you have to go to the entrances and walk in anyhow.
