Just to preface, I’m a really casual player, and I’m not looking for raiding or M+ advice. Just a general idea of how to play the spec! I’m generally a feral player but I’m finding feral is a little… lacking, right now!
I haven’t played balance for several expansions - the last time I played, it was kind of a cyclical dance between solar and lunar eclipses and had a sliding scale and you’d go between them. I’ve tried to learn what balance looks like now and I’m just totally overwhelmed!
Can anyone give me a simple overview of what I should be trying to achieve, or link me to any resources?
Get into eclipse asap, only use moonfire in solar eclipse. Dont overcap astral power unless it’s i believe 8+ targets, at which point just spam starfire while getting into eclipse asap
Could you link the source of information related to snapshotting? I was under the impression that boomkin dots recalculate each tick based on buffs. I asked on Dreamgrove discord and people seem to agree, so I’m keen to learn if what I’ve been thinking is incorrect. Thanks!
not incorrect; in prolonged aoe you want to be applying moonfire to as many targets as possible during solar eclipse because wrathing into a load of targets during your solar just isnt worth it; then when your eclipse swaps to lunar everything is already dotted with moonfire leading to much more aoe damage
also snapshotting was removed for boomkin; only feral still has that mechanic - your dots will update dynamically depending on your buffs and eclipses. The reason we apply dots during eclipses is so we don’t delay our next eclipse
What do you mean by that? Right now I’m always refreshing inside pandemic window (<5 seconds) If moonfire runs out within lunar eclipse, I refresh there even if it’s not solar. Is that wrong?
In AoE yes.
In AoE you want to get as many Starfires off as possible in Lunar eclipse. While still avoiding to overcap resources. When you get to 5 targets you don’t even care about overcapping on Astral power.
At 5+1 per 20% mastery targets you even priotize starfire while in solar eclipse
